Senior Design Engineer



Job Function & Scope:




The following activities and responsibilities form the important and critical aspects of the job description, however, there will be additional tasks connected to the day to day business requirements which will be associated with this position.

Key Tasks:



Personal management



To ensure the design team meet agreed deadlines by: Communicating job / project expectations Planning , monitoring and appraising results Coaching, counselling, and disciplining employees Initiating, coordinating and enforcing systems, policies and procedures Maintains staff levels by recruiting and training employees; developing personal growth opportunities. Maintains workflow, by monitoring steps of the process; understanding bottlenecks and problem solving. Communicating with other departments to ensure team involvement. Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organisations standards. Organises design review meetings at the appropriate stages. Manages engineering changes. Manages library parts. Leads team by daily meetings, briefings. Communicates with subcontractors, suppliers, customers and colleagues by email, video conferencing, and telephone and by visits. To manage and complete personal design projects and be proficient in the following areas from receipt of design brief to oversee the verification and validation of the design for small and standard projects. To act as lead designer to be oversee all areas listed below and ensure maintenance and continuous improvement of the system and functions of the design department.

Role Responsibilities



To produce concept models drawings using Autodesk Inventor for customer approval and quotations. To be able to produce information from drawings for variety of end users, skilled and unskilled in all areas of the business from manufacturing to sales and purchasing. Create full manufacturing drawings from Autodesk Inventor models, for a wide variety of manufacturing processes including but not limited to welded fabrication and manual assembly. To work on and update information from Solid Works format and AutoCAD 2D drawings and import them into Autodesk Inventor system. To be able to design using the parametric functions of Inventor to enable adaptable parts and assemblies to be designed, so that product families may be rapidly manipulated. Understand customer brief, and if necessary, visit customer site and take measurements and details. Ensure in-house structural requirements and standards are met. Understand legal, statutory requirements including but not limited to the machinery directive, EN standard requirements and current Health & Safety Law. To ensure stress and stability calculations are carried out understood and recorded. To ensure correct storage of all date, documentation model and drawing files and to work with other members of staff to improve data storage systems. To check own projects for accuracy and completeness before handover to production and purchasing. Ensure project files, meeting records and technical information are kept up-to-date. To produce associated design documentation including among other, bills of materials, parts lists and project files. The Senior Design Engineer must have knowledge of production technique available to be used, for example Welding and Fabrication, and bolted assembly techniques, use of innovative fixing solutions is also encouraged. Knowledge of these functions is essential to product designs which are economical to manufacture. Key to the role is good personal knowledge of manufacturing techniques and systems, relevant industry standards and best practice for the company product line in addition to knowledge of CAD techniques and systems. It is expected that a Design Engineer will keep abreast of these issues as part of their personal development.

Administration




The company operates using a quality system ISO 9001: 2000. All work must be recorded as per the company quality system, and company procedures must be followed. All materials used must be recorded and accounted to for to ensure that customers are charged correctly.
