Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior DevOps Engineer to join our development team as we build the latest innovation from Strategic Imperatives; The Fibre Cafe. Built as a cloud native serverless SaaS product on AWS, The Fibre Cafe is a unified gateway to the UK's fibre ecosystem in use by some of the largest ISPs in the UK.

As a

Senior DevOps Engineer

, you will take ownership and drive the scalability, security, and efficiency of our infrastructure. This role demands a seasoned professional who can design and implement cutting-edge infrastructure solutions, lead system reliability initiatives, and mentor team members to foster a high-performing culture. You will work closely in a cross-functional team, aligning technical priorities with organisational goals while ensuring smooth operations and robust systems.

Responsibilities



Architect, implement, and maintain scalable, high-quality Infrastructure as Code (

IaC

) in

TypeScript

with

Pulumi

. Lead infrastructure and influence architectural decisions, focusing on system scalability, reliability, and security. Take ownership of the

Bitbucket and Spacelift

CI/CD

pipelines to ensure seamless, resilient deployments. Develop and refine observability strategies to proactively monitor system health using tools such as

Grafana

,

Postman

, and

CloudWatch

. Lead efforts to resolve critical system issues and minimise or prevent downtime while maintaining high operational standards. Embed robust security measures into all DevOps workflows to safeguard infrastructure and ensure compliance with industry standards. Manage complex projects, prioritising tasks and dependencies to align DevOps efforts with business goals. Mentor team members, fostering skill development, knowledge sharing, and a feedback-driven culture. Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and clearly communicate

DevOps

concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Continuously evaluate and optimise workflows to enhance efficiency, scalability, and resource utilisation. Collaborate with SRE and DevOps engineers across the company, promoting best practices and standards.

Experience Required



Must have:

Proven expertise in designing, developing, and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (

IaC

) with

Pulumi

and Terraform. Programming experience with

JavaScript

/

TypeScript

is essential. Experienced with

cloud platforms

and their associated services, with recent experience in

AWS

. Strong experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, Bitbucket Pipelines) and ideally orchestration automation tools (e.g. SpaceLift). Advanced skills in

observability

,

monitoring

, and

debugging

tools (e.g., Grafana, Splunk, CloudWatch). Demonstrated ability to architect scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure solutions. Hands-on implementation of advanced security measures in CI/CD and infrastructure workflows. Strong problem-solving mindset, with experience managing, supporting and delivering large-scale projects or ongoing products. Knowledge of

Agile methodologies

and experience working in a team using collaboration tools like Jira and Confluence. Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience mentoring team members, fostering continuous learning, and promoting knowledge sharing. Background in software engineering and/or computer science. Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
Good-to-have:

Proficiency with

scripting

languages (e.g., Ruby, Bash, or Node.js) Experience with

database systems

(SQL, DynamoDB, Redis) and their integration with infrastructure. Exposure to

configuration management

tools like Puppet or Ansible. Awareness of economic thinking and evaluating the ROI of DevOps initiatives.
