The role @ The Chinese Room

We are looking for a Senior Dialogue Designer to help shape the narrative design and dialogue implementation of our current and future projects. In this role, you\'ll occupy the space between the narrative, audio, design, animation, production and code departments to bring alignment to and achieve high quality standards of dialogue in our games.

As the first Dialogue Designer to join The Chinese Room, you will be instrumental in defining what this new position and department will look like in the years to come.

In this role you will be:

  • Creating previsualisations and prototypes of dialogue implementation
  • Designing and implementing voice systems for features such as: Barks and combat vocalisations, breathing, crowd and walla, interruption, queuing and priority logic
  • Editing, mastering and, where applicable, applying effects processing to speech assets
  • Managing the dialogue database
  • Designing and optimising the dialogue pipeline across all aspects, including cinematics, voice over and walla
  • Fine-tuning pacing of in-game dialogue
  • Proof-reading scripts and preparing recording sessions
  • Assisting with voice direction during recording sessions
We are looking for someone with:
  • Dialogue Design experience in a previous position, or a senior sound designer / technical designer with a keen ear and feel for dialogue looking to move into this field
  • Experience using Unreal Engine and Blueprint, or a similar visual scripting engine
  • Experience with Wwise or similar audio implementation middleware
  • Two or more shipped titles on consoles or PC
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude, for you will be closely collaborating with nearly all other departments
  • A true passion for dialogue, speech, and all its intricacies - and especially for how this can lift interactive storytelling to life
