Nursery Manager and ensuring that the highest standards of childcare and education are maintained at all times.
Main Duties
To ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care of the children following the statutory framework at all times
To implement and adhere to a consistent daily routine both indoors and outdoors ensuring high quality teaching and learning experiences are offered to children at all times
To plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities and evaluation as required, ensuring that the team within your room is delivering high quality activities
To demonstrate current knowledge and understanding of the EYFS and that you comply with all areas of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage
To understand fully, and adhere to the company's policies and procedures at all times
General responsibilities
Give time, attention and energy to each individual child so that they can reach their full potential. Direct members of the team within your area as required to ensure each child's needs are met.
Promote a warm and understanding relationship between staff, children and parents in a stable, relaxed and secure atmosphere.
Encourage children in self-help, personal hygiene and acceptable social behaviour in a positive way & help identify any areas for concern in regards to a child's behaviour offering support and guidance to other members of the team.
Involve parents in the induction, care and progress of their children at nursery, including participation in regular parents' evenings/events ensuring your area is well presented and your team are fully informed.
Maintain a Medicine, Accident and injury on arrival forms as required by the 1989 Children's Act.
Abide by the Trafford Guidelines & the Statutory Framework for the Early Years on Safeguarding Children together with Elmscot's Safeguarding Policy; ensuring you have an understanding that safeguarding is everybody's responsibility and that you have a duty to act accordingly & report any concerns.
Maintain children's assessment, observation & tracking records when necessary, sharing all information with the child's parents / carer and ensuring all learning journeys are kept up to date. Monitor this with your team ensuring that all members of the team are observing, recording and planning for their key groups.
Report any matters of concern regarding children, staff or parents to the Nursery Manager or the Nursery Owners in their absence.
Participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of weekly, monthly activity plans and ensure the team you supervise are all displaying current planning on the room notice board.
Support and guide trainees in developing Good Practice acting as a mentor and coach when required.
Maintain the children's equipment and playrooms to ensure that they are safe and clean at all times, reporting all breakages to the Nursery Manager. The environment must also promote equality and diversity of the society in which we live
Work as an effective team member being flexible with working practices including being prepared to help throughout the nursery where necessary
Participate in ongoing training for personal and professional development.
Help with the preparation and serving of children's meals ensuring mealtimes are pleasurable, social events that provide opportunities for children to gain independence and learn new skills
Actively participate in staff meetings, in-service training and the development of Nursery policies and procedures, taking responsibility for helping to improve and develop the nursery.
Act as a good example, to be supportive and consistent with all staff to develop a strong and committed team and act as a link between the manager, deputy manager and staff.
Provide an anti-oppressive and non-discriminatory environment, which combats race, differently able and gender stereotypes, and promote equal opportunities.
Liaise with other childcare professionals sharing information and therefore promoting a multi-agency working environment
Be of smart appearance and be a good role model for the children and students / trainees including adopting good personal hygiene routines. Monitor the appearance of your team members and address any issues as they arise.
On completion of the health and safety induction, ensure that you adhere to all health and safety regulations at all times. Ensure no food is stored with your rooms other than that being used for snack.
Ensure that the routine of the rooms you are working in run smoothly, organising shifts, lunch hours and breaks.
Ensure that all children moving rooms do so smoothly with the help of the child's key-worker. Liaise with other Seniors' to ensure smooth transitions for all children.
Ensure that new members of the team are aware of all health and safety issues. Ensure that you and your team adhere to all health and safety regulations at all times including the identification of risks and reporting any concerns to the Health & Safety co-ordinator.
