Senior Editor, Children's Custom (12- month-FTC)
By bringing together the greatest stories, brands and authors of any global children's publisher, Penguin Random House Children's helps to create and rediscover heroes for each new generation.
Our Custom publishing team makes those heroes available to an even wider audience, by creating unique books for a huge variety of non-traditional book retailers. From Aldi to The Works, from Europe to China, we take bestsellers like Peppa Pig, Bluey, Hot Wheels and Ten Minutes to Bed, alongside our classic Ladybird fairy tales, to places they've never been before.
The role
The Senior Editor, Custom manages the delivery of print and digital projects within our Custom publishing team across our Ladybird brands, characters and books. They work with freelance suppliers and collaborate with the Design and Managing Editorial team to deliver final files for custom and contract projects, adapting or developing content to meet specific customer needs in the UK international markets.

  • Custom projects: adapting existing content to meet the needs of a particular customer for a bespoke deal
  • Contract projects: developing new material for a particular customer
Key responsibilities:
  • Deliver Custom and Contract publishing projects using new or repurposed content across our Education, Licensing and Ladybird lists.
  • Work with Sales to assess market trends and proactively pitch new opportunities.
  • Contribute to Contract publishing pitches by generating ideas and attending or presenting to partners.
  • Source, brief and manage freelance packagers, authors and editors.
  • Manage project budgets and track costs.
  • Liaise with customers and partners with strong diplomacy, capturing change requests and negotiating solutions.
  • Develop and review material to ensure it meets briefs, brand guidelines, licensor requirements and quality standards.
  • Work with digital and audio suppliers to deliver required components.

  • In depth knowledge of the publishing process, publishing formats and editorial development work
  • You might bring experience of working with licensed brands and characters and/or producing bespoke content to meet particular market or customer needs

Salary
Circa 40,000 dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.

While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important. For this role we expect that you will work from our London-based office at least three days per week.
