We are seeking a Senior Editorial Section Manager for Heliyon, an all-science, open access, Cell Press journal. About the Role

The Senior Editorial Section Manager will be part of our editorial support teams with the primary responsibility of managing one or more of our scientific sections. This requires frequent and consistent contact with scientific editors, authors, and editorial referees. Scientific literacy in the life science is required for the role of the Senior Editorial Section Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the highly independent and smooth operation of sections within the journal through collaboration with our international scientific editors.
  • Confidently and continuously develop the editorial teams of the journal and ensure strong relationships with the scientific editors of Heliyon.
  • Manage high volume of internal and external e-mail correspondence, providing exceptional customer service to authors, reviewers, and staff.
  • Guide manuscripts through an online database from initial submission through to final editorial decision.
  • Independently perform ethical and technical checks on manuscripts for compliance with the journal\xe2\x80\x99s standard after submission, revision and in preparation for acceptance.
  • Monitor the peer review process with a goal of obtaining timely feedback from editors and reviewers.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the business on projects to improve Heliyon.
  • Be a key member of the internal team, guiding and training new joiners and contribute to the interview process for new applicants.
Requirements
  • Have a scientific background (undergraduate level) in life science.
  • The successful candidate will have at least one year of in-depth open access publishing experience.
  • Have a talent for exceptional communication in written and spoken English, and a focus on hospitality.
  • Possess an enthusiastic attitude, great analytical skill and the ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Be able to adapt to change, handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and to prioritize individually.
  • The successful candidate can work independently with minimal supervision for day-to-day activities and is proactive in their work and own development.
  • Have great interpersonal skill within an international team.
  • Be able to work equally well collaboratively or individually without continuous supervision in an ever-changing environment
  • Be PC proficient with expertise in Microsoft Office (particularly Outlook and Excel).
