About us The English Department at UCL is one of the oldest in the country, founded in 1828, and is recognised as among the leading departments of English Literature and English Linguistics in the world. The Department offers a single honours degree which covers the full range of the subject, and two MA programmes in: English Linguistics, and Issues in Modern Culture. These programmes and our PhD programme are successful in attracting students from overseas as well as the UK and EU. The Department consists of 37 permanent staff, approximately 345 single-honours undergraduates, 80 graduate students, 30 research students and, each year, about 25 affiliate students. We have buoyant UCAS applications, with thirteen applicants per place and a high-quality intake.
About the role INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY
This is an internal secondment role available to current UCL staff only. It is available as a secondment from 5 January 2026 until 11 December 2026 to cover maternity leave.
The post-holder will specialise in administering the Department's undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, particularly with respect to admissions and assessment, ensuring effective procedures are documented and implemented. The post-holder will lead in achieving a high quality and timely service to current and prospective students, and staff relating to the designated programmes and beyond.
The role will include management for all matters relating to teaching and learning activities of students from enquiry to completion, including the organisation of committees and processes relating to assessment, student and course records.

About you You will have a proven track record in teaching and learning administration within a higher education institution. Candidates will be educated to A-level standard or equivalent with a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (including mathematics and English language).
Experience of providing administrative support in an education environment, particularly in an examinations and assessment context is essential.
You will have excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to liaise with a variety of people including staff and students, and the ability to work well within a team. The ability to prioritise and organise workload is essential as well as being able to work accurately with thorough attention to detail even when under pressure.
Knowledge of the complete cycle of the UCAS admissions process is desirable.
