Working as part of an established building services (MEP) team, we require an Electrical design engineer to support the Birmingham MEP project offering, working with and reporting into, our regional projects lead.
There will be opportunities for personal growth and developing new skills, working for high profile clients delivering exciting projects at leading properties and developments across the UK. Our project work covers various sectors including commercial office buildings, as well as retail, industrial and residential (to include large scale build to rent (BTR), private rented sector (PRS) and student accommodation schemes).
This role is for someone who is keen to establish themselves in a leading multi-disciplinary property consultancy practice and support the growth of our team.
The successful candidate will deliver packages of electrical design work across a variety of project instructions. Ideally you will have professional experience within the building services industry, with a consultant or contractors design background. Further to design work, the candidate will also be required to undertake instructions to support our other service lines including technical due diligence (TDD), dilapidations, and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) surveys, as well as project monitoring instructions

Key accountabilities and deliverables
1.0 Work in conjunction with the existing Engineering and Sustainability (E&S) team, reporting to the Birmingham regional lead / director.
2.0 Support the technical delivery of engineering systems (both detailed and performance design basis), for projects within our client's key sectors. This shall include all aspects of electrical building services design (performance and detailed), including:
2.1 Low voltage distribution.
2.2 Small power.
2.3 Lighting and emergency lighting (including lighting control systems).
2.4 Containment.
2.5 Fire detection and alarm and security systems.
2.6 Miscellaneous extra low voltage systems such as security, access control CCTV etc.
3.0 Production of technical specifications and electrical design drawings.
4.0 Site inspections. Client and Contractor meetings.
5.0 Production of well-written technical reports and presentations that are engaging and balanced with infographics.
6.0 Lead electrical input on individual projects assigned by the team lead.
7.0 Undertake surveys and provide technical input to deliver MEP projects, and TDD, dilapidations and PPM type instructions.
8.0 Support our project monitoring service line, including fund and lender monitoring.
9.0 Collaborate with the E&S hub's electrical engineering team to identify and develop best practice. This is to include workflows as well as standard templates and documents.
10.0 Assist in preparing budget cost estimates for project designs.
11.0 Ensure successful delivery of design and monitoring projects working alongside the wider MEP team.
12.0 Undertake technical presentations to support the growth and development of early professional engineers and sustainability team.
13.0 Deliver individual financial performance in line with agreed targets.
14.0 Build and manage individual pipeline.
15.0 Contribute to the continued success of the Birmingham MEP team, collaborating and working with our energy and carbon and sustainability consultants to support our client's decarbonisation strategies.
16.0 We encourage our team members to undertake CPD and participate in shaping the industry conversation and as such we support your participation in industry events, working groups, and attendance at networking opportunities.
Key Skills/Knowledge/Qualifications
1.0 Minimum 5 years' experience within a BSc/BEng (Hons) or MSc/MEng Engineering degree with work experience in a building consultancy or contractor (or comparable qualifications/career experience/on the job learning).
2.0 Ideally MCIBSE, or similar, or working towards accreditation - support will be provided to achieve this.
3.0 Hands-on experience of delivering projects within the built environment, building services or engineering, and development of low and zero carbon energy strategies. Good understanding of building services, their operation and applicability.
4.0 Working knowledge of BS 7671 IET Wiring regulations.
5.0 Ability to assess technical data and architectural drawings. Competency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office packages is essential. Knowledge of Revit, MS Project, and electrical design software such as Amtech/Trimble, Dialux and Relux and ability to undertake hand calculations is required. Knowledge of Google SketchUp (or equivalent), Bluebeam, Python, VBA or similar would be beneficial, but is not vital.
6.0 Experience of writing design specifications and production of drawings.
7.0 Working knowledge of The Building Regulations.
8.0 Technical due diligence, dilapidation and PPM survey experience is preferable but not essential.
9.0 Ability to co-ordinate workload and resources with other members of the team

1.0 If not already achieved, an aspiration to work towards Chartered Engineer and MCIBSE status or keen to do so (full support will be given)
