Job summary
We're looking for an exceptional Senior End User Computing Engineer to help us make a difference to our planet.
As our Senior End User Computing Engineer, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

You will act as a force multiplier across the whole business, your skills and the services we as a team provide underpin the amazing work the Met Office does, you are empowered to make change and see the impact of your work.
We continually look to improve how we work and the support and services we offer to the Met Office, your input along with the whole team is valuable, and as one of the seniors you will have influence and provide mentoring across our direct team as well as have opportunities to continually learn with dedicated time to develop your skills.
Your key duties
:
Providing exceptional customer experience and service to internal Met Office staff. As an internal enabling team our focus is understanding the Met Office staff and providing value.
Supporting; modern Windows desktop, hardware lifecycle, Microsoft 365, and wider aspects of End user computing in the Met Office.
Ownership of Projects to improve our End User Computing services and internal team processes.
Escalation point for junior team members for the Incident and Task workloads, as well as reviewing complex requests for work from the business.
Your own training and continued professional development both on job and ongoing dedicated training time & qualifications.
Administering and updating policies, procedures, and support documentation
Wide autonomy in your workload and priorities, looking for someone who looks for root causes and problems and then looks to fix them with the team, continually improving and learning.
A holistic view that considers the wider business requirements and impacts and can use that to prioritise workloads for themselves and the team as needed.
We operate an on-call roster in Technology to provide 24/7/365 support to respond to operational service requirements. This post may be part of an on-call roster and the postholder would be required to participate in an on-call roster where in operation.
Person specification
Essential Criteria, skills and experience:
1 - Demonstrable Enterprise technology experience in
at least four
of the following domains:
Supporting Microsoft Operating Systems as an escalation point
Hardware troubleshooting and root cause investigation
Configuration management (SCCM/MCM/Intune Endpoint manager)
ITSM Tool usage for Incident Management (e.g. Service Now)
ITIL working practices, ideally ITIL v4 foundation certified
PowerShell or other scripting used to automate processes
Software management and support
Azure and on prem AD tooling
Microsoft 365 administration and support as an escalation point
2 - Commitment to staying updated with the latest industry trends and technologies and Experience in identifying and implementing process and workflow improvements.
3 - Proven expertise in mentoring and knowledge sharing with the team, including delivering training through various methods, such as regular team meetings, individual mentoring sessions, or other means of disseminating knowledge.
4 - Providing ownership and acting as an escalation point for incidents, with the ability to work across organisational boundaries, expertly communicate with stakeholders, and raise support with internal teams, external partners, and third-party vendors.
5 - Ability in deconstructing problems into their component parts to diagnose root causes and troubleshoot issues across diverse technology capabilities and Ownership of root cause investigation and problem management.

As our Senior End User Computing Engineer, your total reward package will be up to 49,806 annually, which includes:
33,794 base pay
An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97%
Recruitment Retention Allowance (RRA) you will be paid 2,200 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. Whilst in post, you will be paid this market driven allowance from April 2024 until March 2026 in your monthly pay
Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave
