We're looking to recruit an enthusiastic, reliable, driven, and hardworking Senior Finance Apprentice to join our Finance & Business Efficiency team. The role will develop through seniority and salary upon completion of set milestones including reaching Qualified status, meeting expectations at personal development reviews and finally achieving your Level 7 Accountancy qualification. You'll be supported to build relationships with peers, allowing you to achieve your professional development objectives. The role involves rotation within the Finance team, assisting in the day-to-day financial activities, working alongside the Finance Business Partnering and Financial Control teams.
Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Ownership of month end reporting processes - analysis and production of reporting packs for circulation
  • Working with the Business Partnering Team, providing financial advice, financial analysis, support and coaching to Budget Holders and their staff, advice on and help in implementing corrective action on receipt of early warning of variances from budgets.
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting exercises, receive financial submissions, consolidate and incorporate to the annual budget and medium-term financial plan
  • Preparation of accurate and high quality monthly and quarterly reporting and forecasting
  • To play a role in ensuring CNC's Annual Accounts and Financial Returns are completed in a timely and accurate manner. In so doing, to follow and comply with accounting policies contained within the HM Treasury guidance.
  • Respond to queries raised by the internal and external auditors during their audit of the Accounts, explaining procedures and provide documentation as requested
  • Assist in undertaking balance sheet control and reconciliation processes
  • Assist in the preparation of cashflow management, including supporting cash collection process and Treasury forecasting
  • Support the Financial Accountants in relation to all aspects of Fixed Asset Accounting.
  • Support the team with supplier invoices and query resolution when required.
  • Support users will issue around financial aspects of the Purchase to Pay process.
To be successful in this role you will be AAT Qualified (Level 3), ideally with some experience of working within a finance role in a public sector organisation. You'll be a confident user of MS Office applications and Enterprise Resource Planning systems, and have a high degree of numeracy, technical and analytical skills. You will work as part of a large team, in a lively working environment. We are looking for somebody with strong interpersonal skills, excellent attention to detail, willingness to assist in all tasks, and who is happy to constantly learn and develop new skills.
This role has been assessed as suitable for hybrid working, details of which will be discussed and agreed with the successful individual.
Please note that this role will initially be based at our HQ Culham until our relocation to Harwell in Autumn 2026 and the role thereafter will be based at Harwell.
