About the role


------------------


The Faculty of Natural Sciences is recruiting a Senior Finance Officer to lead the cluster finance team for the departments of Chemistry and Life Sciences.



You would work closely with the department Directors of Operations and their teams to enable the sound financial management of their Academic Department. You would manage a team of two Finance Officers supporting the two Academic Departments.



You would advise and train academic, research, and support staff on College financial procedures and work closely with other Faculty and Central Finance, HR and Research Services teams to ensure an efficient and professional service.


What you would be doing


---------------------------


Leading and managing the finance cluster team, resolving complex staff & student finance issues, providing advice on financial matters, and providing routine and ad-hoc reports and information as required. Specifically including the following responsibilities:


Monitor and report on account balances and future projections as required by the Departments and the Faculty. Complete balance sheet reconciliations to College timetable. Contribute to period-end processes including identification and calculation of year end accruals and provisions. Maintain and develop Department finance records and databases and respond to queries from auditors. Maintain the Department chart of accounts which includes the setting up and closing down of activity codes in line with College procedure. Support Faculty in ensuring appropriate classification of accounts. Authorise Oracle access to cost centres and account codes for purchase order requisitioning. Ensure that finance procedures are distributed and understood by appropriate staff. Administer and process bursaries funded through UKRI training Grants and other schemes. Approve purchase orders and process and approve journals up to an agreed amount, ensuring adequate funds are available before orders leave the Department and the expenditure is allowable. Provide budget and financial forecasts for annual planning and major projects as required. Support the Faculty Finance Officer and Departmental Operations Managers with ad-hoc analysis and planning. Contribute on an ad hoc basis to Faculty and College-wide projects as agreed with the Director of Faculty Finance. Collaborate with other Faculty Finance staff and provide support to other Departments within Natural Sciences in times of absence and at peak times.
