Senior Fire Alarm Service & Security Commissioning Engineer

You'll act as a senior technical point of contact, providing leadership on-site and mentoring junior engineers. The role also includes participation in the
out-of-hours on-call rota
, responding to urgent service needs in line with our 24/7 support commitments.

We offer a competitive salary between
38,000 and 45,000 per annum
, depending on experience. You'll also benefit from 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays, your birthday off, pension scheme, and company vehicle, tools and laptop. You'll be working within the Midlands geographical area, travelling to site with occasional travel to surrounding areas. Sites will vary in size and complexity, requiring a flexible and proactive approach.
Here's a look at some of the things you'll be doing:
Commission, configure, and test fire alarm systems (addressable and conventional), including cause & effect verification and integration with life safety systems such as sprinklers, access control, and emergency lighting, ensuring full compliance with BS 5839 and relevant legislation
Carry out planned/reactive maintenance, servicing, fault diagnosis, system upgrades, and remedial works, while responding to emergency callouts as part of an on-call rota and delivering effective technical solutions under pressure
Liaise with clients, site managers, and contractors to meet project and service expectations, while supporting audits, quotations, and promoting high standards through technical leadership and mentorship of junior engineers
Ensure accurate documentation, including service reports, commissioning certificates, and compliance records, adhering strictly to fire safety and health & safety policies
Can you show experience in some of these areas?
Extensive fire alarm commissioning and servicing experience (5+ years) across various systems and site types, with proven expertise in leading platforms such as Gent, Notifier, Advanced, Kentec, Apollo, and Hochiki; manufacturer training is highly desirable
Strong technical competency, including fault finding, loop testing, cause & effect programming, panel configuration, and use of commissioning software tools/laptop diagnostics; comprehensive knowledge of BS 5839, with FIA certification (Units 1-5) or equivalent, and preferably holding ECS/CSCS or trade cards
Excellent problem-solving skills

capable of handling high-profile or complex systems independently; experience with integrated life safety systems (e.g. suppression, BMS, emergency lighting), and health & safety certifications like IPAF, PASMA, or SSSTS are advantageous
Professional client-facing abilities with experience mentoring junior engineers; must hold a full UK driving licence and be willing to join an on-call rota with relevant overtime/call-out pay
