SATRA is seeking to recruit a Senior Technician to join our Furniture Department.
This department conducts testing on a wide range of furniture products for clients worldwide, ensuring they meet recognised quality and safety standards.
Operating within accredited laboratories, the team uses a variety of specialist test equipment and machinery to assess the physical performance of furniture in accordance with International, European, and British standards.
The Furniture Team is made up of multiskilled technicians, technologists, and support staff who coordinate and carry out routine testing on customer-submitted products to verify compliance with relevant legislation and quality benchmarks.
About the Role
As a Senior Technician, you will serve as the first point of contact for technical enquiries within the Furniture Department. Your primary responsibility will be to carry out routine testing on customer-submitted furniture products, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and quality standards. In this role, you will also play a key part in upholding and promoting the SATRA brand through the delivery of high-quality technical support and service.
Responsibilities
Prepare and condition test samples prior to evaluation.
Conduct testing on items including mattresses, cabinets, tables, and seating products in accordance with British, European, and international standards. (Note: Testing of mattresses, foams and surface finishes will primarily be to provide cover for colleagues.)
Plan and agree on testing schedules with customers.
Communicate with customers via telephone and email regarding testing procedures, progress, and results.
Act as the primary point of contact for technical support related to all National Bed Federation (NBF) enquiries, including guidance on code of practice requirements.
Provide training and guidance in testing procedures to less experienced team members.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date personal training and competency records.
Work in accordance with SATRA's quality management system and UKAS accreditation requirements.
Follow and uphold SATRA's health and safety protocols.
Experience & Skills
Essential
Solid understanding of mattress and bed testing standards and requirements.
A minimum of five high-grade GCSEs, including English, Maths, and Science.
Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
Strong teamworking abilities and effective time management, with proven experience meeting deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Highly organised, with a methodical and structured approach to tasks.
Strong interpersonal skills with clear and confident oral and written communication.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to follow instructions precisely and learn new tasks quickly.
Positive, enthusiastic attitude with a helpful approach to both colleagues and customers.
Desirable
Further education in science-related subjects or mechanical engineering.
Experience in a similar role, such as working in a laboratory, test house, or workshop--particularly in a time-sensitive environment.
Experience testing furniture products to British, European, and international standards.
Background in furniture manufacturing or related industry
