An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our small, friendly team at Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated Senior Healthcare Science Assistant. The Cardiac Device Team at Rotherham consists of a specialist team of Clinical Scientists who perform and support Pacemaker and complex cardiac device implants and follow ups. As a Senior Healthcare Science assistant within this team you will be responsible for supporting the cardiac device team with the workflow within the cardiac device service. This will include working as part of the multidisciplinary team delivering a range of designated clinical tasks/duties, working within agreed policy and procedures. Basic clinical observations i.e. heart rate, blood pressure, height, weight Performing 12 Lead Electrocardiograms (ECG) as well assisting in more complex cardiac procedures under the supervising physiologist (e.g. setting up home monitors, supporting domiciliary visits, six minute walk tests, clinical record keeping, monitoring clinical stock). Venepuncture/ Cannulation (applies only where there is sufficient opportunity to maintain this skill) To assist in other areas of cardiology under supervision as appropriate
Main duties of the job

  • Basic clinical observations i.e. heart rate, blood pressure, height, weight
  • Performing 12 Lead Electrocardiograms (ECG)
  • To recognise normal and abnormal heart rhythms at a basic interpretation level
  • To recognise situations or test findings which need bringing to the attention of senior colleagues/ medical staff for clinical interpretation
  • To check the technical quality and calibration of basic equipment and to report any adverse findings to a senior member of staff
  • To assist in more complex cardiac procedures under the supervising physiologist (e.g. setting up home monitors, supporting domiciliary visits, six minute walk tests, clinical record keeping, monitoring clinical stock)
  • To improve the workflow within the Cardiac Device Service which may include liaising with patients, other departments/hospitals or acting as a chaperone
  • Performance of basic care procedures and techniques
  • To assist in the training of new starters and trainees
