Job description
The overall purpose of this role is to provide effective reporting and analysis services to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, utilising innovative and creative ways to analyse and present information. Working within the Evaluation and Analysis Team and reporting to the Lead Analyst, the Senior Information Analyst will help manage the delivery of data and information as part of a planned programme of outputs and to respond to sometimes urgent ad-hoc requests. The role will have specific responsibilities in the development and management of data regarding a range of biomedical research areas, where close working with subject matter experts is required.
Primary tasks
Manage the delivery of data, information and analysis requests as part of a planned programme of outputs or to respond to ad-hoc requests.
Ensure accurate and consistent maintenance of datasets, including regular updates, validation, and documentation to support data integrity and accessibility across projects.
Maintain good and proactive partner relations, particularly with MRC subject matter experts, in order to help develop and maintain portfolios of data in various research areas.
Fully utilise the reporting and system tools as appropriate to extract and analyse data and provide the requested information in an appropriate format. This will demand the expert use of Excel and SQL, and may also require Alteryx, Tableau, Python, R and other software tools.
Communicate accessible insight and analysis through reports, dashboards and presentations for a non-technical audience to support decision making and ensure data is utilised and correctly interpreted.
Undertake ad-hoc analysis as required and promoted by senior managers in the Evaluation and Analysis team.
Secondary tasks
Management and planning of resources including supervising other staff that may report on specific projects / tasks.
Engage within UKRI and externally with other partners to share good practice and develop a consistent approach to management information and presentation. Represent the MRC on cross-UKRI and cross-life sciences sector activities and projects where required.
Understand changes and opportunities with evolving business intelligence and management information tools, seeking to make recommendations to improve and enhance analytical and reporting capability.
Understand MRC's data within UKRI's source IT systems, the processes that generate and maintain this data to ensure consistency and accuracy of reporting. Collaborating closely with the Data Programme to take remedial action as required.

Significant, demonstrable experience in quantitative and qualitative data analysis
Ability to turn analysis into clear, concise and accurate reports, visuals, dashboards and presentations tailored to a wide range of diverse audiences
Ability to work collaboratively and to build effective relationships and networks with people at all levels, both internally and externally
Strong communication skills with the ability to: collect requirements from a variety of internal customers; influence and persuade others; and to negotiate diplomatically
Track record in the planning, organisation and delivery of projects and work streams, and the proven ability to manage competing priorities under pressure
Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively both individually and as a member of a team
Advanced expertise in Excel and experience or demonstrable understanding of SQL, Alteryx and data visualisation tools including Tableau
Demonstrable understanding and knowledge of biomedical science, the UK research funding landscape and/or bibliometrics and citation analysis, with awareness of data protection responsibilities under GDPR
