The Senior Infrastructure Engineer plays a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the technology foundation that supports Schuh's enterprise operations. This role provides deep technical expertise across infrastructure platforms and drives improvements in reliability, security, and performance.
You'll act as a technical owner for core infrastructure services--covering servers, storage, networks, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and related technologies--while taking ownership of infrastructure projects from design through to successful delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Ownership & Delivery
Own and deliver infrastructure projects end-to-end, from planning and design through implementation and transition to support.
Lead the delivery of infrastructure solutions that are secure, scalable, and aligned with business needs.
Maintain and optimize enterprise systems including Windows Server, Active Directory, Exchange Online, Microsoft 365, virtualization, and core networking.
Provide third-line support and act as an escalation point for complex incidents and problems.
Drive upgrades and migrations (e.g., AD 2008 to 2019, Exchange, VPN, monitoring, backup, and cloud integrations).
Modernisation & Continuous Improvement
Champion modernization across the infrastructure estate, introducing automation, standardization, and proactive monitoring.
Identify opportunities to improve resilience, performance, and user experience.
Contribute to the long-term infrastructure roadmap and platform lifecycle planning.
Ensure all systems and projects adhere to security, audit, and operational standards.
Project Ownership & Collaboration
Take responsibility for delivering assigned infrastructure projects on time and to quality standards.
Collaborate with project managers, business stakeholders, and technical teams to define scope, requirements, and success criteria.
Coordinate vendors and internal resources to ensure consistent project execution.
Provide accurate project updates, documentation, and post-implementation reviews.
Governance & Best Practice
Maintain accurate configuration, design, and operational documentation.
Ensure infrastructure services meet SLAs and business continuity requirements.
Participate in change control, capacity planning, and disaster recovery testing.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
Strong experience administering and supporting enterprise infrastructure in a hybrid or multi-site environment.
Proven technical expertise in:
Windows Server (2016/2019) and Active Directory (including GPO, DNS, DHCP).
Exchange / Microsoft 365 administration.
Virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V).
Networking (LAN/WAN, VPNs, firewalls, Wi-Fi).
Backup and monitoring platforms.
Demonstrated ability to lead or own infrastructure projects through full lifecycle.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with a proactive mindset.
Understanding of IT security principles and operational compliance.
Desirable:
Experience with Azure AD, Intune, and automation (PowerShell).
Familiarity with ITIL processes and enterprise change management.
Knowledge of enterprise storage, endpoint management, and scripting.
Experience coordinating delivery with third-party vendors and MSPs.
