This is an exciting time to join the University of St Andrews Libraries & Museums as a Senior Library Assistant (Library Collections), contributing to the successful delivery of the Unit's Strategic Plan 2024-2029. Key priorities include embedding a culture of continuous improvement in the design of core services and ensuring the long-term sustainability of collection development and stewardship.
The successful candidate will be based within the Library Collections Team and will play an active role in advancing these strategic goals. They will also support key initiatives, including St Andrews' participation in the UK Print Book Collection project, and contribute to the day-to-day delivery of essential services such as fulfilling book and scan requests from Walter Bower House Library.
All team members are expected to take a flexible and positive approach to their work. While the role primarily sits within the Library Collections Team, the postholder will also undertake a variety of tasks across the wider Library Collections and Digital Services Directorate as needed. Typical duties may include staffing the Walter Bower House Library reading room and supporting metadata workflows. Some tasks may be physically demanding.
A key attribute of this role is an understanding of how data can inform and shape service delivery. The successful candidate will have experience of using and analysing data within a work environment and will be confident in applying these skills to support decision-making and service improvement. They will be responsible for regularly running reports from the Library Management System and extracting relevant data to monitor various aspects of the collections -- for example, identifying missing items or analysing usage trends.
The successful candidate will have a good general education to Scottish Higher level or equivalent. They will demonstrate a well-organised approach to work and the ability to deliver projects efficiently and within deadlines. Strong communication skills and a commitment to providing excellent customer service to a diverse range of users are also essential.
