Job Description

In this role you will lead teams of software engineers responsible for our Command Platform, focusing on Exposure Command capabilities and experiences. We ship new content and product updates regularly to our customers to ensure they're protected from new exposure risk as they arise. You will work closely with an outstanding peer group of highly skilled engineers in order to prioritise and set direction of the teams.

About the Role



The Senior Manager, Software Engineering role is a part of our Product and Engineering team who are at the forefront of keeping our customers safe from attacks and breaches. In this role you will be focussed on helping our customers seamlessly manage their security solutions as effectively and efficiently as possible, and ensuring our products are delivering a secure experience. You will lead and inspire our engineering teams, and be responsible for the strategic direction of our product development, and ensure the delivery of high quality, scalable solutions that solve our customers security needs. You will manage a team of managers and engineers, and work closely with a cross functional team across the organisation to be successful.


You'll work on Rapid7's leading Command Platform, which offers customers a fully-integrated set of tools to secure their attack surface in a single solution. Our customers use the product capabilities to identify and remediate exposures and risk across multiple areas, which include cloud and on-prem infrastructure.


In this role, you will:

Lead and develop multiple teams of backend, frontend, and automation engineers, including direct management of engineering managers. Define and execute technical strategy for the Exposure Command domain in alignment with product and platform goals. Establish and track engineering success metrics (e.g., system reliability, cycle time, quality metrics, customer-impact KPIs). Collaborate cross-functionally to influence product strategy, roadmap prioritization, and user experience decisions. Foster a high-performance engineering culture rooted in ownership, psychological safety, and continuous learning. Drive operational excellence in areas such as system observability, incident response, developer productivity, and secure coding practices. Play an active role in engineering-wide initiatives, such as hiring strategy, org health, technical councils, or cross-team programs. Engage directly with customers and field teams to gather feedback, address needs, and improve product-market fit.

What You'll Bring

Proven experience managing managers and scaling high-performance, distributed engineering organisations. Strong technical background with experience leading teams that build large-scale distributed systems and data platforms. Strategic thinking and ability to balance short-term priorities with long-term technical investments. Deep experience with cloud-native architectures and containerized deployments; exposure to technologies like Go, Java, and Python, and cloud services. Strong delivery skills with a track record of managing multiple concurrent initiatives and achieving predictable outcomes. Commitment to team development: performance management, coaching, career pathing, and inclusive leadership. Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication skills. Understanding of secure development practices and the specific challenges of building enterprise-grade security software.
