Creativity doesn\xe2\x80\x99t just happen in the studio, workshop, or darkroom. It\xe2\x80\x99s a way of life. A lot has changed here since we started out over 160 years ago, but this simple equation of making and living still shapes our ethos.

A new kind of arts university since 1856
Founded in 1856 as Plymouth Drawing School and most recently known as Plymouth College of Art, before achieving university title in May 2022 to become Arts University Plymouth. We\xe2\x80\x99ve retained our independence, our identity, and our ability to respond swiftly to emerging trends and artistic movements. And the beliefs that hold us together haven\xe2\x80\x99t changed. Social justice \xe2\x80\x93 through community impact and social mobility, and creative learning \xe2\x80\x93 through pedagogical innovation, are at the heart of everything that we do. We believe that high-quality education for life is the creative catalyst for personal, professional, and cultural transformation.

We collaborate
We\xe2\x80\x99re a specialist arts university with an internationally distinctive identity and the power to award our own degrees. It\xe2\x80\x99s a truly collaborative cross-disciplinary environment. Nationally, we\xe2\x80\x99re a Founding Associate of Tate Exchange and internationally we act as advisors to the Cheongju International Craft Biennale, are founders of the world-leading Making Futures brand, and work in collaboration with Artslink International Education in Shanghai. Our contribution to the creative industries and cultural agenda continues to grow, offering more opportunities each year to collaborate with leading creative practitioners from around the world.

Our people, our place, our space
Our tutors and technicians are practising artists, designers, media makers, cultural producers and theorists, and highly-skilled masters of their crafts. All are contributing to the diverse ecosystem of our art school and the growth of the creative industries in the UK. We\xe2\x80\x99re proud of our dedicated studio workshops and Learning Labs, our onsite public art gallery, Mirror, our integrated learning environment, and our extensive range of equipment and technologies. Our student community is encouraged to access facilities across the whole college, not just limited to those linked to the subject they are studying, allowing for collaboration and cross-pollination in their creative practice.

Creativity as a way of life
We believe that contemporary arts practice is the catalyst for personal, professional, and cultural transformation, and we are proud of our student-centred approach, providing high levels of quality contact time and opportunities to engage with tutors and specialists across the college. To us, creativity as a way of life means immersing yourself in your creative practice, through learning and the exploration of your discipline.

An international community
We are an art university with an international perspective, welcoming students from around the world to share ideas and practice, and to explore global opportunities and horizons. We regularly welcome national and international visiting lecturers into our community, as well as externalising the work of the university through our research and exchange opportunities with our international partners.

Join us
Atmosphere is a hard thing to put into words, but so many people who come here say the same thing: it feels like home. As a member of staff, it is your energy that interests us and that we work with here.

Our campus belongs to a creative collective of makers, thinkers, and researchers.

We can\xe2\x80\x99t wait to work with you,
