Location: Hybrid with base at Katharine House Business Centre, Stafford



Salary: Circa

24,000 - 27,200 per annum (pro rata 30 hours or circa 30,000 - 34,000 per annum (Full Time Equivalent)



Hours: 30 - 37.5 hours per week / 4 or 5 days per week

Purpose and impact

The Senior Marketing & Communications Officer will work closely with the Head of Marketing & Communications (HOMC) and across the charity, to apply strategic practice to plan effectively and support the team to deliver the Marketing & Communications Strategy, annual plans and ad-hoc activity.

The Marketing & Communications Team goals are to:

o protect and enhance the charity's brand and reputation

o promote care services and increase referrals by building awareness of what we do and how we help

o support vital income streams to maximise income by inspiring people to support and shop with us

o help foster a positive culture and good colleague engagement with effective internal communications.

This position is designed for an effective and flexible, relationship focused, motivational marcomms leader with strong planning and communication skills. You'll care about the big picture as much as the details and will be a creative, data driven, strategic marcomms superstar with traditional and modern media and marketing skills and experience, and a digital first, analytical approach. You will have a track record managing owned channels, supporting multichannel campaigns, using data and research to show the value of strategic marcomms to drive organisational effectiveness, and motivating colleagues to set and achieve SMART objectives.

The role reports directly to the HOMC, working with our Marketing & Communications Team of three others and volunteers plus external suppliers, to support all charity functions across care delivery to income generation.

The role will require some ad hoc travel to our hospice and local retail stores.

Core Responsibilities



Support the HoMC and team to achieve strategy and yearly plans.

Deliver high-quality, accessible, effective marcomms activity and campaigns across traditional and digital channels.

Help embed strategic planning and marcomms practices, delve into research, listening and evaluation, data and analytics and find and reporting on the best ways to work, adapt, share learning and prove the value and effectiveness of work, set and achieve SMART objectives/KPIs, encourage and facilitate two-way communication, and improve outputs, conversions, out-takes and outcomes.

Be the first point of contact for the team for day to day activities, assigning reactive work and ensuring resource and budget to achieve targets.

Manage and develop owned channels including our website, social media and mass email.

Provide final team proofing and approvals in line with targets, key messages, Style and Brand Guides.

Support effective internal communications, including change initiatives, driving a positive and proactive culture within the organisation, in line with our values and behaviours frameworks.

Support HoMC to monitor risks, issues and crisis comms, and set up charity issues management teams and plans as necessary.

Stay up-to-date with latest marcomms trends, development, best practice and compliance, coaching and developing team and colleagues as necessary.

Deputise for HoMC: supporting the team, running team meetings, representing the department in leadership meetings as required and cross-departmental organisational-wide projects/change programmes where appropriate.

Need to have:



CIPR, PRCA, CIM or IDM qualification and membership - equivalent or working towards. More recent qualifications preferred, recently lapsed membership considered.

At least a year's experience in a similar strategic/senior marcomms role

Marcomms planning/project management experience

Experience managing and developing owned channels including complex websites, social media and mass email with use of WordPress, Meta, Mail Chimp or similar

Attention to detail, with strong editing, proofing and quality control

Managing PESO multichannel marcomms campaigns

Experience in traditional communications methods, media and print publishing

Experience in data analysis using analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Hootsuite, AMEC etc and reporting strategic achievements and conversions

Experience in supporting internal communications

Experience of operating all Microsoft packages confidently, including Planner

Own vehicle to travel regularly to our other local sites

Utilise AI to automate proofing to our Style Guide

Know relevant laws and risks including media laws, GDPR, PECR, intellectual property rights, accessible communications etc

Stay up-to-date with latest marcomms trends, development, best practice and compliance

Coach and develop team and colleagues

Deputise for Head of Marketing & Communications: supporting the team, running team meetings, representing the department in leadership meetings as required and cross-departmental organisational-wide projects/change programmes where appropriate
