We are currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our leading engineering company based in Huddersfield. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for to lead and manage the mechanical maintenance function across the site, ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of all fabrication, machining, assembly, and lifting equipment. This role is responsible for minimising downtime, extending equipment life, and supporting production through proactive and reactive maintenance strategies.
The basic pay for the role is 40,000 -45,000 with generous OT enabling the role to earn 60,000 plus.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage planned preventative maintenance and repairs on a variety of plant machinery, including CNC and manual machine tools, fabrication equipment, and overhead cranes.
Lead rapid response to mechanical breakdowns to minimise downtime and production losses. Investigate root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Diagnose faults and implement cost-effective solutions.
Ensure all equipment is maintained in accordance with statutory regulations (e.g., LOLER, PUWER) and company safety policies. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and certification.
Support CapEx and continuous improvement projects involving the installation, relocation, or upgrade of mechanical equipment.
Provide technical input on equipment specifications and layout. Supervise and mentor mechanical maintenance staff and apprentices. Allocate workload, ensure shift coverage, and support development through training and competency assessments.
Champion safe working practices. Carry out risk assessments and enforce Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) and permit-to-work systems. Participate in incident investigations and audits.
Requirements & personal attributes:
Completion of a recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship.
Proven experience in maintaining and repairing a range of plant equipment and CNC machinery.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Proactive and solutions-focused.
Strong communicator and team player.
Calm under pressure with a sense of urgency.
High level of attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
Organised with good planning and prioritisation skills.
