Job Type:

Permanent, Full Time, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week

Salary:

35,000-40,000 DOE

Role Purpose



The Senior Mechanical Technician plays a key role in the hands-on assembly, testing and development of mechanical prototypes and production equipment. Working closely with design engineers, this role supports product innovation by providing practical insight, technical assembly expertise, and workshop leadership. The successful candidate will have strong mechanical skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to support projects from concept through to production handover.

Competencies, Skills and Knowledge



Experience in low-volume, mechanical assembly or product development environments.

Familiarity with pressure testing, leak detection, or fluid/gas systems.

Experience in leading small technical teams and projects.

Basic electrical or control systems knowledge beneficial.

Welding qualifications & experience.

CNC Machining qualifications & experience.

Key Duties/Responsibilities



Assemble, test, and commission mechanical and electro-mechanical prototypes and products according to engineering drawings and specifications. Work collaboratively with design engineers and technicians to support product development, testing, manufacture & repair.
Provide practical input on manufacturability, material selection, and design improvements.

Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues during testing and prototype trials, documenting findings and modifications. Manufacture, fit, and adjust components using a range of hand and machine tools (e.g., milling, turning, drilling & welding). Assist in the creation and maintenance of build procedures, test documentation, and assembly guides. Ensure workshop equipment is maintained and calibration records are kept up to date. Lead by example in maintaining a safe, clean, and organised workshop environment. Support the transition of new designs into production through close collaboration with manufacturing teams. Mentor junior technicians and apprentices within the department, fostering skill development and technical excellence.
