Senior Media Relations Officer Grade 12

Croydon, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Senior Media Relations Officer

An exciting opportunity has opened for an experienced media professional to provide high quality media relations support to Croydon Council, in London's largest borough.

Working in a busy and friendly communications team, you'll play a key role in protecting and enhancing the council's reputation through media handling and planned proactive media relations activities.

Reporting to the Media Relations Manager, you'll be accomplished at working with the local and national media across broadcast, print and digital, with the ability to think on your feet, prioritise and make informed decisions.

We're looking for a wordsmith who can produce accurate and engaging copy for press releases and op-eds, as well as Croydon's own digital channels and print communications. You'll be adept at social media content creation and know how to tailor messages for a variety of channels and audiences.

You'll have a proven track record in media and public affairs, with a good understanding of how local, regional and central government works. As a member of the corporate communications service, you will work with senior officers and politicians and will be expected to use your influencing skills to help get their messages across.

The role requires a nationally-recognised communications qualification (or equivalent) with recent relevant experience. Media law experience is desirable.

In return, we offer learning and development opportunities to support your ongoing development. We have a generous holiday allowance and you will have access to the Local Government Pension Scheme with employer contributions; a range of local and national retail discounts; and a host of enhanced family friendly policies.

If this sounds like you, please apply or contact us for a chat about the role: communications@croydon.gov.uk

Closing date: Friday 6th June @ 11.59pm
