Department

The Outreach team at the University of Essex delivers a full range of outreach activity for local schools and the community. This includes careers fairs, campus visits, assemblies as well as our mentoring, book club and the summer sleepover projects. We are a small team who are passionate about inspiring underrepresented groups into HE and ensuring those from underrepresented groups have equal opportunities to experience HE.

Duties of the Role

To lead the operational management of the Outreach team, ensuring that the team are meeting the requirements of the University\xe2\x80\x99s Access and Participation Plan. This will involve line management responsibilities for three Outreach Officers, leading on evaluations and reporting of outreach activity, ensuring the HEAT and CRM databases are kept up to date and ensuring our safeguarding policies and processes are adhered to operationally. Although this is a management role there will be some opportunity and expectation for delivery during busy periods. The team are hybrid working, working a minimum of two days a week in the Colchester campus office. This post will report to Head of Outreach.

Skills and qualifications required

The post holder will require a degree or equivalent qualification, line management experience, experience of delivering and project managing education projects, activities or events and budget management. The post holder will also need experience of public speaking to a range of audiences and have experience working with diverse groups of young people. An understanding of the barriers underrepresented groups face to access Higher Education will also be required. An understanding of safeguarding will also be required within this role. The successful candidate will also require excellent administration, organisation, communication, project management and leadership skills as well as the ability to use own initiative.
