We are looking for an individual to take on the role as our PACSs/RIS Specialist as well as providing radiographer support to the department as needed.
You should have experience working in healthcare application management with experience of IT application service and support a good functional knowledge of IT systems and concepts. Understanding of clinical pathways, multidisciplinary working and the impact of access to medical imaging is essential as well as the importance of data, data structures, confidentiality and the use of data.
The Trust is just beginning the tender process to secure a new RIS system, so experience in change management and procurement processes would be beneficial.
Our Radiographer rotation at Royal Surrey includes CT, Plain film, theatre and trauma imaging. These is also an opportunity to rotate through Interventional Imaging, Fluoroscopy and the Cardiac Catheter Lab.

The post holder will provide senior-level support in the administration, configuration, and optimisation of the Trust-wide Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), Radiology Information System (RIS), and associated radiology IT infrastructure. Working closely with clinical, technical, and operational teams, they will contribute to the effective delivery and continual improvement of digital imaging services.
The main department comprises of 3 general rooms, a 2 room A+E department, 2 MRI scanners, ultrasound department, digital fluoroscopy, Interventional suite and 2 Hologic tomosynthesis units. This year we have installed a new Cone Beam CT scanner into our Maxillo-facial department which has seen a huge improvement in the service we can offer to our patients. We have 4 CT scanners: a Siemens Somatom, a GE Frontier, GE Revolution and GE Evolution.
The job holder will also support the Radiology Digital Lead by providing expertise and operational input into key digital initiatives, including the Trust's RIS and ICE procurement projects. In addition to their informatics responsibilities, the post holder will maintain clinical competency and participate in image acquisition, providing radiographic support to the department as needed. This ensures the role remains responsive to service pressures and contributes directly to patient care during periods of increased demand or reduced staffing.

The Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) is integral to the storage, distribution, and review of radiology images across the Trust, supporting clinical decision-making in inpatient wards, theatres, outpatient departments, and clinic areas. Imaging modalities include Computed Radiography (CR), Digital Radiography (DR), Mammography, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, and Angiography. PACS plays a critical role in the delivery of timely and accurate diagnostics, particularly in high-acuity areas such as ITU and the Emergency Department.
The Radiology Information System (RIS) underpins the electronic management of patient imaging episodes, including appointment scheduling, procedure tracking, and results reporting. It is used by a wide range of staff across the Trust and is fully integrated into the broader clinical systems infrastructure to support efficient communication with referring clinicians.
The post holder acts as a senior specialist in radiology informatics and will work across all Trust sites, collaborating with clinical, technical, and operational teams to ensure the continuous availability and performance of PACS and RIS. They will support the wider PACS administration team in maintaining system integrity, troubleshooting issues, and enabling access to imaging and reports wherever required for patient management, diagnosis, and treatment.
The role also requires confident and professional engagement with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including clinical and non-clinical Trust staff, modality service engineers, RIS/PACS vendors, and external NHS bodies. This includes representing the Trust in discussions with equipment suppliers and participating in regional or cross-organisational initiatives.
In addition to their digital responsibilities, the post holder will contribute to clinical service delivery through active participation in image acquisition. This may include work in plain film, emergency imaging, CT, theatre, or interventional radiology settings, ensuring flexibility and responsiveness to service needs.
