The Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital is a modern, forward thinking, large teaching hospital employing 10,000 staff & offering a full medical service to a population of over 570,000. It has strong links with both the School of Pharmacy with onsite teacher practitioner posts & the Medical School at the University of East Anglia.
The Pharmacy Department provides a fully comprehensive pharmaceutical service across the Trust and to several external community units. We are a large & very busy department with over 180 members of staff including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants, Science Manufacturing Technicians, Admin & Clerical staff. There are many varied roles & we all work as a team to provide the different functions & services whilst maintaining a high level of patient care.
Functions of the Pharmacy Department include the ordering, receipt, & supply of medicines to wards and departments throughout the Trust/external units. This includes dispensing for inpatients, outpatients, community units & supplying ward stocks averaging around 2,500 items a day. Wards & external units are provided with a clinical service with Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. The Pharmacy provides Aseptic Services such as the preparation and supply of chemotherapy & other sterile products. We have a Quality Assurance team that works to ensure that our products are prepared & supplied to meet the highest quality standards.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day support for pharmacy IT equipment (such as PCs, dispensing robot, label printers and bar code scanners) and to assist with the maintenance tasks to support the pharmacy stock control software with EPMA team, as well as other pharmacy software such as Prescription Tracking System, Pharmacy Powergate and Prisym. They will also be required to dispense inpatient, outpatient, community unit, self-medication wallets, discharge medication (TTOs) and controlled drugs (CDs) against previously clinically checked prescriptions. Training will be given to the successful applicant.
Full time hours of work will be 5 days a week Monday to Friday and 1 in 10 weekends with corresponding time off during the week. There is also a requirement to participate in the public holiday rota, currently minimum 1 per year. Rotas are subject to change at any time. Part-time hours/job share may be considered - please note any preference on your application.
