Job Advert

DYNEX SEMICONDUCTOR LTD

Dynex Semiconductor Ltd have been manufacturing semiconductor products for over 60 years; providing IGBT, Bipolar, Power Assembly and Electric Vehicle System products to customers across the world. As a business, we constantly strive to grow and develop as a leading, independent manufacturer of high power and high-reliability electronic components.

It is an exciting time to be joining Dynex as we embark on a number of exciting projects, which you can be part of. Successful candidates will join the team at our Research and Development Centre, contributing to power module development projects from inception right through to production.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Keen to find a role that offers a challenge and an opportunity to develop future power semiconductor modules for our growing customer base? As a Power Module engineer your role will include:

Design and development of power module packaging for wide band gap semiconductor devices (SiC, GaN) with particular focus on low losses (electrical and thermal) and high reliability in the application.

Design and analysis of power module circuit design, including loop compensation and current sharing techniques by performing comprehensive circuit simulations to enhance the power module performance in the application.

Design and layout of high- and low- power circuits, designing to such considerations as; commutation loop inductance minimisation, gate loop inductance minimisation and balancing, current sharing between devices and the minimisation of electromagnetic interference.

Develop power module designs with high levels of performance and compliance with application related standards.

Create and review schematics, applying advanced PCB layout techniques and ensuring product safety compliance.

Particular focus on embedding of power devices within multi-layered laminated material stacks to produce power modules with both high power density and low losses.

Undertaking project related activities within the R&D Centre with a particular focus on power module design and packaging: researching new/novel technologies and ideas to create market leading package designs.

Develop module designs with system level architecture in mind. Where appropriate, to provide input to design of system level architecture such as capacitor integration, heat sink design/coolant flow integration, placement of gate drive boards and power busbars etc.

Produce schematic documentation and engineering drawings for power module and system designs and oversee early sample manufacture of prototype modules.

Use of 3D and 2D CAD modelling software (Solid Edge) and PCB design software (Altium) in order to produce power module designs as outlined.

Use of finite element modelling software (ANSYS Mechanical and Q3D) and circuit simulation software (LTSpice, PLECS) to evaluate the designs produced and maximise their static and dynamic performance.

Design power modules and systems in accordance with "Design for Manufacture" principals form the outset.

Providing written and verbal engineering reports and presentations at regular intervals.

The opportunity will exist for the right candidate to take on project leadership positions, overseeing and driving a project from start to finish.

Working as part of a collaborative team to create module designs starting from the ideas stage, meeting internal or external customer requirements and specifications.

ABOUT YOU

As a team, we work really closely together, we are looking for an engineer who has experience working with power modules, preferably within a research and development capacity. We offer support and develop to the team; therefore, these roles would suit engineers who are keen to take on a new challenge and project. The ideal candidate for this role will be equipped with a combination of the following skills and competencies:

Educated to degree level or higher in an electronics or electrical engineering related subject. Experience of working in an electronics manufacturing environment is desirable.

OR

Equivalent relevant industrial experience in power electronics module design, PCB design and layout, or power systems design.

Industrial experience of power module and/or power inverters. Experience of automotive drive train inverters would be advantageous.

Experience in electronics design, particularly with a view to circuit topology and layout and the design of power electronics systems considering parasitic losses, thermal management and EMI.

Experience using 2D and 3D modelling tools to produce engineering drawings and designs, with a particular focus on electronics and power electronics products and systems, is desirable.

Experience in PCB design and layout including for optimisation of circuit layout for balancing and optimising of commutation loop and control loop circuits. Experience with Altium Designer is advantageous.

Strong experience in circuit simulation techniques for characterising circuit designs and device selection. Experience of LTSpice, Ansys (Q3D, Thermomechanical, electrical) would be highly advantageous. Alternatively, experience of power module simulation with another relevant simulation software is extremely desirable, along with keen desire to develop simulation skills in the role.

Experience or knowledge of wide-band-gap semiconductors e.g. GaN or SiC would be advantageous.

Ideally you will be self-motivated with a desire to produce high quality design work as part of a vibrant, multidisciplinary team. You will be confident to take ownership of your work, making engineering decisions that directly affect the performance of the product and be able to communicate your ideas effectively and passionately to colleagues from across the business.

Please note: if you are shortlisted, you will receive an email inviting you to attend an interview. Please be aware that the invitation may appear in your spam or junk folder.
