Birmingham City Council is seeking a committed and experienced Senior Practitioner AMHP to lead our citywide daytime Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) service. This is a pivotal role in one of the UK's largest and most diverse local authorities, offering the chance to make a real difference in the lives of residents experiencing mental health crises.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage a team of AMHPs delivering statutory duties under the Mental Health Act
Management of all S.13 requests that come through to the daytime AMHP service
Oversee complex assessments and ensure timely, safe interventions
Provide expert supervision, guidance, and support to practitioners
Collaborate with health, police, and voluntary sector partners across Birmingham
Drive service development, quality assurance, and workforce planning
Assisting Team manager in planning and delivery of AMHP forums
Assisting Team manager in planning and delivery of pre-AMHP course
What We're Looking For:
Qualified Social Worker with current AMHP status
Proven leadership experience in mental health or crisis intervention
Strong understanding of safeguarding, risk management, and legal frameworks
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally competent practice
Passion for improving outcomes for vulnerable individuals and communities
A creative thinker who can generate fresh ideas and challenge conventional approaches
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse complex issues and develop effective solutions
