The role would be office based in Bristol or London (or hybrid home/office based in either of these locations). Occasional travel may be required for specific project needs such as meetings.

The Role



Our work includes supporting clients in the assessment of climate change impacts of projects in a wide range of sectors including renewable energy, transport infrastructure and industry. We work with developers, designers and engineers to ensure each new development minimises its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, aligns to net zero goals, and is resilient and adaptable to future climate change impacts. We develop GHG inventories for a wide variety of projects and developments, produce GHG and climate change assessments for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and planning, and advise on setting emission reduction targets. We also help clients develop climate-related strategies, undertake climate change risk assessments and provide technical, scientific, and socioeconomic advice, based on objective, impartial and evidence-based analysis of a climate change policy.

The successful candidate will support a wide range of on-going GHG and climate change projects to support EIAs. Our projects include large scale nationally significant infrastructure projects evaluated through the Development Consent Order (DCO) regime. You will have a client-facing role with responsibility in terms of managing project teams and project delivery. You will lead and contribute to the development of proposals for new work.

We are currently seeking a senior or principal grade consultant (approx. 5-8 years' experience) but would consider more junior and senior roles for the right candidate.

Skills and experience we are looking for



Candidates will need to be able to work on their own and as part of a team, sharing responsibility for the management of both projects and staff.

Key Skills

Ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate experience in all or most of the following:

An understanding of UK and international climate legislation and policy drivers. Understanding of the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations 2017 and national planning policy relevant to climate change such as the NPPF. Experience in developing whole life GHG footprints for building and development projects for the purposes of planning and EIA and assessing likely significant effects of GHG emissions. Knowledge and experience in the assessment of climate resilience and adaptation, and in-combination climate impact assessment for planning and EIA. Experience in drafting Environmental Statement chapters and technical appendices. Experience in the technical management or leadership of GHG and climate change assessments. Track-record in the consultancy sector. Excellent communication skills and ability to write clear and concise reports in English. High technical capability and ability to review and interpret data. Organisation, initiative, and the ability to plan your work and adhere to fixed deadlines.
While not required, skills and expertise in any of the following areas of experience would be desirable:

Experience of working in accordance with recognised GHG emissions standards and guidance such as GHG Protocol, PAS 2080:2023, RICS Whole Life Carbon Assessment for the Built Environment, ISO14064-1:2019. Experience in using Life Cycle Assessment tools (e.g. LCA One Click, e-Tool LCD, Wrate, Open LCA). Experience in assessment of embodied carbon in buildings and infrastructure, using tools and resources such as EPDs, ICE 3.0, EcoInvent, Climatiq etc. Knowledge and experience in decarbonisation and net zero plans. Understanding and experience of climate projections such as UKCP18 or other CMIP6 models. Experience in development and application of science-based targets. Sector-specific experience (particularly aviation, rail, industry, renewable energy). Knowledge of carbon markets, offsetting and renewable energy. Experience in sustainable and low-carbon design. Knowledge of energy, sustainability and ESG reporting, including mechanisms such as SECR, ESOS, TCFD, CSRD, etc. Experience integrating inputs from diverse disciplines. Published work in the climate change field.
Desirable Qualifications:

MSc or higher in an appropriate science or engineering-based discipline. Membership of relevant professional institutions.
