Help us create a better future, quicker
ScottishPower are delighted to bring to market a role for a Senior Procurement Consultant to help us lead the way to net zero.
You'll join at a period of exciting growth as we you'll be involved in strategy development, procurement of contracts and cost and commercial management of contracts to support the expansion and modernisation of our Transmission network as we head towards our 2030 goals and beyond. This will enable electricity, created by new and existing onshore and offshore wind development, to be efficiently moved to nearer to where it is needed by the consumer, to support the modern electrified society.
The role is suited to procurement professionals with experience in engineering and construction in the UK or candidates with a quantity surveying background as the role will cover both pre and post contract award activities. Awareness of the constraints and complexities in the UK construction market is essential.
What you'll be doing
A new 'Strategic Transmission Projects' team is now established within the wider Networks Procurement function and is responsible for the procurement of over 5.4 billion of investment in our transmission network in South and Central Scotland over the next 10 years. We have recently launched ScottishPower's largest contract opportunity ever and will see major investment in green energy infrastructure and green jobs which will bolster the grid for decades to come. With electricity demand forecast to double in the next 10 years, this is one of the most significant infrastructure roll outs to upgrade the grid to support the electricification of the wider economy. We've got the plans and we've got the financial capital to invest, and the UK supply chain stands ready to benefit to the tune of billions.
The main objective of the role is to take a lead role in the procurement of a high value strategic agreement through procurement to contract awards and be the procurement lead as we allocate and develop projects for delivery under the agreement. The role will include supplier engagement, the management of supplier relationships, gathering market intelligence and benchmarking and negotiation of high value complex contracts and associated cost and commercial management.
You'll manage everything from purchasing and supply chain activities, through to relationships with suppliers and procurement and placement of high value strategic agreements and one-off contracts. Working closely with the business to support the development, construction or operation of significant infrastructure projects, assets, systems, and services by understanding business drivers and market dynamics. You will have a level of understanding of both tactical and strategic procurement principles, practice, and processes, and be able to develop, with support where needed, appropriate contracting strategies and execute these through competitive tendering and negotiation.
Day to day with appropriate support, you'll lead and support the commercial aspects of contract negotiations, managing commercial and contractual activities both pre-contract and where appropriate post contract to ensure delivery of best value whilst meeting Iberdrola Group Procurement processes. Working with colleagues to ensure that the commercial risks associated with the business requirements are identified and understood and reflected in the appropriate technical and commercial information.
What you'll bring
You will know and have experience in engineering and construction contracts and markets in the UK and will have either a procurement or quantity surveying background.
You will be familiar with strategy development, procurement processes, evaluating supplier bids, cost and commercial contract management and negotiations.
You will possess experience in engineering and construction contracts, including EPC type contracts, and be familiar with the NEC conditions of contracts.
Being a confident procurement professional or quantity surveyor, you seek to persuade, challenge, and build credibility with key stakeholders and strive to deliver results to meet deadlines. All of this will be supported by your strong analytical skills, attention to detail, working to timelines and confident in the use of Microsoft Excel to work with formulas and calculations to build cost models to evaluate supplier bids.
What's in it for you
As well as a competitive salary which is reviewed annually, you can also enjoy a number of other benefits. With our pension scheme, we'll double match your contribution up to a company contribution of 10%.
