About the role
The Senior Publications Officer plays a pivotal role in managing UCL's printed student recruitment publications and digital prospectuses to attract prospective students and showcase UCL's world-leading brand. This includes overseeing the production of key materials such as the Undergraduate Prospectus, coordinating digital prospectus systems (both back end and front end) and processes, and ensuring a seamless experience for both internal contributors and external users.
Working collaboratively with academic faculties, central departments and ISD colleagues, you will develop and deliver engaging, compliant, and brand-aligned content that supports UCL's student recruitment goals. Additionally you will manage supplier relationships, guide content owners, and champion best practice in editorial standards and digital presentation.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Project managing the production and scheduling of UCL's prospectuses and related recruitment materials.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with content owners to support effective and compliant content creation.
  • Providing training, guidance and resources to ensure consistency and quality across all student recruitment communications.
  • Managing suppliers and budgets for print and online projects.
  • Ensuring compliance with CMA regulations and UCL's brand standards.
  • Collaborating with ISD to enhance UCL's digital prospectus systems and student recruitment web interfaces.
  • Conducting competitor and sector reviews to inform continuous improvement.
Writing, editing, proofreading and, where required, undertaking design and typesetting work.
Please note, this role is available on a fixed-term contract basis and is available to start from 17 November 2025 and is initially funded until 31 May 2026. The role will be based out of our London Kings Cross/St Pancras office two-days per week, working on a hybrid basis.

About you
You will be a creative and technically skilled communications professional with a background in managing printed publication projects. With an eye for design and detail, you'll be confident using industry-standard software to create engaging materials that reflect UCL's brand and meet the needs of prospective students.
You'll combine your practical design and production skills with a solid understanding of web publishing, content management and compliance in a higher education context. Collaborative and organised, you'll enjoy working with colleagues across a large, complex institution to deliver high-quality and effective communications.
You will have:
  • Experience using specialist design software, specifically in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator to design and typeset printed publications and update marketing materials.
  • Knowledge of web publishing in both Content Management System (CMS) and HTML environments.
  • A high level of proficiency in business software, including Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with web design and site management software for creating and maintaining web pages within pre-set templates.
  • Experience working collaboratively across multiple teams or departments in a large or complex organisation.
  • Knowledge of the UK and international higher education sector, including key trends and challenges.
  • An understanding of Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) advice and guidance as it applies to student recruitment communications.
