Senior Publicity Manager Penguin Random House Children's

London, United Kingdom

Job Description

We make books for everyone, because a book can change anyone. Our creativity is inspired by different perspectives, so we want our culture to be one of belonging, where everyone feels welcome and where differences are celebrated.

Are you looking for your next step in your publicity career? Are you interested in the latest in children\'s authors, brands and media? Do you love sharing stories? Do you know how to connect with audiences?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a passionate, strategic and creative Senior Publicity Manager to join our award-winning children\'s publishing team.

About PRH Children\'s and the PR team

We are the UK\'s no.1 children\'s publisher, home to Puffin and Ladybird, and some of the most recognised entertainment brands and authors, including: Peppa Pig, Bluey, Peter Rabbit, The Snowman, Eric Carle, Tom Fletcher, Roald Dahl, Jeff Kinney, Adam Kay, Robin Stevens, Nadia Shireen, Ed Vere and Jacqueline Wilson. We also launch talented new rising stars, including: Nathan Bryon, Dapo Adeola, Nazneen Pathak, Tamzin Merchant, Sam Copeland and Manjeet Mann. Our Penguin YA list includes Malorie Blackman, Karen McManus, Phillip Pullman and Jennifer Lynn Barnes.

Our marketing and PR teams are organised into three audience-focussed hubs (across Pre-School, Primary and YA). Joining a team of 15, you will largely work across our Primary Hub and report into the Head of Publicity.

Key responsibilities of the role

The Senior Publicity Manager will largely work within the Primary Hub, leading on publicity campaigns with some of our most successful and high-profile talent. You will be able to plan and implement your own innovative and targeted publicity campaigns which get into the hearts and minds of our consumers for our Primary titles and the Puffin brand.

Detailed responsibilities include:

Independently plan, manage and evaluate consumer facing publicity book campaigns within budget to reach targeted audiences and connect with consumers - often involving high profile authors

Promote books and authors through social media, digital channels, print and broadcast to ensure coverage and generate sales

Manage all aspects of author events and tours including event creation, schedules and stakeholder management whether this be a book festival appearance, schools tour, book shop signing, retailer dinner or a media showcase.

Global campaign management, where relevant, including coordinating international press requests for group companies

Establish and maintain strong external relationships, with consumer media, trade media, key influencers and networks within the industry

Develop relationships with and provide a high level of author and agent care at all times

Liaise regularly with and build relationships with internal departments across the division, in order to plan, implement and evaluate effective campaigns

Actively research the marketplace and readership across the Primary Hub to maintain excellent awareness of trends and to identify and engage with target audiences

Deputise for the Head of Publicity, attending key meetings when necessary

Create and write a variety of press materials

Support with Acquisition meetings and pitches as required

Undertake special projects (e.g. delegated by the Publicity Director or MD such as charity liaison and new initiatives)

This role will also include line management of two Press Officers.

What you\'ll bring

You don\'t need to have worked in publishing before to be considered for this role, but a passion to work with children\'s brands is essential. Perhaps you\'ve worked in entertainment or media PR previously, or in a PR agency - whatever your PR background, we\'d like to hear from you if you:

Have a keen interest in the UK children\'s book market

Are a creative individual who isn\'t afraid to think outside of the box

Are a proven project manager who has the ability to multitask and handle competing priorities with strong personal organisation and time management skills

Have excellent communication skills and are confident with pitching and presenting

Have proven publicity management experience, especially working with high-profile talent

Are able to generate multi-channel campaigns, on and offline, with innovative, digital content at their heart

Are a team player but can work autonomously using initiative

If this sounds like you and you\'re ready for the challenge, please apply with your CV and Cover Letter by midnight on Thursday 24th August 2023.

As part of your cover letter, please tell us in no more than 250 words about a social and digital first publicity campaign that has caught your attention. What did you like about it, and what impact did it have?
