We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of cost control and financial administration related to general building and minor civil's projects as well as supporting our housing frameworks division. The successful candidate will also play a vital role in supporting and mentoring junior members of the team. Duties
Manage a team of quantity surveyors, leading by example and provide support and mentorship to junior team members.
Prepare and analyse project budgets, estimates, and cost plans from initial design through to completion.
Ensure profit improvement plans are put in place for all contracts prior to works commencing and monitor regularly to maximise opportunity and prevent poor performance and losses.
Monitor project costs throughout the construction process, ensuring adherence to budgets.
Conduct regular site visits to assess progress and identify potential cost overruns or savings opportunities.
Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to negotiate costs and secure competitive pricing.
Manage variations and change orders, ensuring all adjustments are accurately documented and reflected in project costs.
Prepare detailed reports on financial status, highlighting any discrepancies or risks.
Assist in procurement activities by preparing tender documents and evaluating bids.
Ensure compliance with contractual obligations related to financial management and reporting.
Ensure accurate financial reportage and controls take place on a monthly basis and in accordance with the agreed timetable (Cashflow forecast, Adjusted costs, cost reviews and contribution meetings).
Ensure timely final account agreement and retention recovery.
Form quality working relationships with other team members and departments including estimating, construction, finance and procurement.
Form strong client relationships and secure repeat business based on trust.
Provide commercial guidance and support to contracts managers, project managers and site managers.
Review, negotiate and de-risk contracts ensuring back-to-back arrangements with designers and supply chain.
Qualifications
Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor for a similar sized contractor within the construction industry.
Experience of working within a fast paced environment, managing multiple low value (< 1m) projects simultaneously.
Strong expertise in cost control, budgeting, and financial analysis.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Good communication skills for effective negotiation and stakeholder engagement.
Relevant professional qualification such as RICS accreditation or equivalent is preferred (but not essential).
