We have an exciting position for a Senior Quantity Surveyor. to oversee a regional Highways term contract. As our Senior Quantity Surveyor you will report to and be supported by the Managing QS.
Specialising in Highways, Civils, Drainage, Technology, Survey Works, Carnell have been working to maintain the UK's Highways Network and Transport Infrastructure running safely and efficiently since 1992. We work directly for National Highways as a Tier 1 contractor, and for a large number of other clients within the Highways and Infrastructure sectors.
Responsibilities
- but not limited to:
Liaise with operational staff including clients and subcontractors
Assessment and submission of quotations / compensation events
Ensure scheme costs are correct on cost system (Nav13) and raise and queries where necessary
Attend internal / external meetings (both electronically and face to face)
Produce and maintain up to date cost forecast.
Compile and issue monthly valuations to the client
Manage subcontract supply chain, issuing orders assessing Subcontract AFPs and the processing of payments
Carry out reconciliation of cost and value through a monthly CVR process
Occasional travel to client offices
Qualifications / Experience
Degree qualified (BSc/MSc or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying,
Experience within a similar role in Civil Engineering / Highways industry
Demonstrable record of supporting the commercial team managing complex, high value contracts
Experience of administering NEC Option C contracts.
Experience of managing a small team of Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors
Role will involve some travel and overnight stays, along with working in a site environment.
Understanding of estimating from first principles.
Experience of digital systems, particularly Microsoft Office and Estimating software (Valesco)

Excellent ability to work independently and within a team
Enthusiastic and willingness to take ownership of contracts/frameworks
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Must be an excellent organiser with proven time management skills
Good commercial awareness
Full UK clean driving licence
