About the Role
The Radio Frequency group at Diamond operate, maintain, and develop RF equipment essential for the functioning of the synchrotron. The group has responsibility for a variety of equipment, including RF amplifiers delivering hundreds of kilowatts, to superconducting and copper resonant cavities.

We now have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Radio Frequency Technician to support the RF Group with a high level of expertise in the construction, operation, maintenance, and development of electronic/electrical/RF circuits and systems.

You will contribute to the overall work of the RF Group with particular responsibility for certain aspects of the RF systems including:

  • Operation and maintenance of low-power RF equipment including drive amplifiers and associated systems.
  • Ensuring state of the art performance and reliability is maintained through future development.
  • RF test and measurement equipment operation and calibration.
  • Fault finding, repair and performance analysis.
  • Undertake the design, construction, and documentation of electrical/electronic circuits.
  • Day-to-day management and inventory control of the RF laboratory and equipment within.
Further responsibilities will include:
  • Contribution to the system optimisation and procedure development of RF systems.
  • Assist in the drawing up of manufacturing and test specifications.
  • Complying with, and contributing to the development of, Health and Safety procedures and policies.
Occasional shift work during commissioning and in support of regular operations will be required, as will some UK travel.

About You
You should have served a recognised Engineering Apprenticeship and ideally gained an HND or degree level qualification or demonstrate equivalent on-the job experience.

You will also have experience or understanding within the following areas:
  • RF test equipment
  • Electronic and RF design
  • Electrical health and safety issues
  • Electrical and electronic fault finding
You will display a willingness to take on a variety of tasks and a desire to learn and face new challenges, and you will demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills to communicate with a range of colleagues.
