Job Purpose
The successful individual will work in support of the Registered Home Manager to deliver high standards of care in a safe environment that meets the Children's needs whilst maintaining privacy and dignity as well as oversee the day to day running of the home alongside the Registered Manager. In addition to this, they will ensure all paperwork completed is to a good standard and help to develop measures for improvement. The individual will also provide supervisions for a small number of care workers to meet the ethos of the home. The successful individual will also report directly to the Registered Manager who will provide guidance and support when required.
Main responsibilities, tasks and duties of the Senior Residential Care Worker
- To provide direct support to the Registered Manager and the staff team and to assume some additional responsibility for the home in their absence.
- To support with Quality Assurance for documentation in the home, and ensure this is completed to a good level.
- To work within the policies and procedures of P4F Hoemcare Champions. When appropriate, contribute to the development and change of some of these policies, procedures and promote good practice.
- To provide formal supervision and support the appraisal process for some care staff within the home, on a regular basis.
- To support with the initial risk assessments and complete regular reviews to ensure these documents remain live and up to date. In addition they are to support in writing the young people's care and support plans and to support with review meetings.
- To support the Registered Manager with the young people's behaviour support plans and look at suitable reward and incentives for the young people.
- To support with the weekly menu and ensure it is recorded and meets the needs of the young people, and support with the shopping to ensure this is purchased appropriately.
- To be capable of asserting themselves in supporting their colleagues when managing difficult situations to ensure challenging behaviours are dealt with effectively and accordingly.
- Under the supervision of the Registered Manager to continuously observe and accurately report on the children's condition and outcomes of care.
- Communicate effectively by giving and receiving information so that appropriate action can be taken.
- Continuously develop own skills and knowledge by fulfilling the requirements of the Residential Support Worker training programs.
- Work with other members of the multi-professional team and develop strong inter agency working relationships.
At all times ensure that own actions support and promote equality, diversity and the rights of children and staff within the company.

- Report hazards to the Manager to promote the health and safety of children and staff in the home.
The job description outlines the duties as currently required but may be amended by mutual agreement to reflect future developments in the service. Appropriate training will be provided to support essential additional skills required.
Person Specification
Knowledge, training & experience
- has a NVQ Level 3 qualification in Residential Childcare with children or equivalent
- has a good knowledge and understand of relevant legislation around childcare and regulations.
- has a good understanding of the Child's rights and the ability to support these.
- possesses Basic IT Skills as well as Literacy and Numeracy Skills.
- are able to maintain professional boundaries and adhere to these.
- are physically able to perform the requirements of the role.
- the successful candidate to ensure they use the ability to develop staff through good example.
- can ensure timely supervision and appraisals are undertaken.
- Possessing a driver's license is preferred.
The successful candidate will be expected to undertake relevant training courses, as stipulated to meet the needs of the young people and the service.
