About Starley Hall



Starley Hall provides bespoke packages of care and education for children and young people aged 10-21 years. All our children and young people present with complex needs and vulnerabilities and require nurturing, compassionate, understanding, knowledgeable, attuned staff to provide the very highest standard of care and protection.

Our service is dedicated to meeting the needs of young people who have complex emotional, behavioural and learning needs. The service has developed over decades to reflect the changing needs of looked after children and the best practice principles that underpin a positive care experience. It is staffed by three integrated teams providing care, education, and therapeutic supports.

We are looking to recruit an experienced, creative, resilient Senior Residential Child Care Worker who is trauma and attachment informed, who will provide strong and supportive leadership to the residential team. The successful candidate should be solution focussed, present with a positive and engaging outlook and be passionate about working with children and young people.

Senior Residential Child Care Workers play a vital role within our houses and school care accommodation service, the role will be challenging, so ideally suited to someone with resilience, creativity, and personal and professional drive. The role will be hugely rewarding with lots of opportunities to learn and develop.

The main responsibilities of this role include



You will have shared responsibility for ensuring that the care team provide the appropriate levels of care and protection to our young people. You will develop nurturing and supportive relationships with the children and young people in the service and support them to access school, activities, clubs, time with family, hobbies and meet with their friends. You will ensure that their support plans and risk assessments are kept up to date and that the team work together to complete all necessary paperwork. You will work in partnership with your Team Leader and carry out delegated tasks. You will provide guidance to the team, delegate and plan activities, support the smooth running of the house You will work alongside other senior care workers and ensure that the Health and Social Care Standards are met in addition to upholding the requirement outlined in The Promise. You will undertake on-calls for our residential settings and provide additional support when required. You will attend all relevant meetings and work in partnership with internal colleagues from education and our therapeutic team. You will establish effective working relationships with external professionals and lead on key-working teams to ensure that the strategies and interventions around young people are consistently implemented. You will work in close partnership with parents and cares so they are involved in decisions and feel consulted and included. You will lead on the completion of key reports for internal and external purposes. You will embrace all the opportunities for training and development and ensure that this knowledge is reflected in your practice. You will attend regular senior care worker meeting and lead on action points and when required chair team meetings and formulate minutes. You will supervise some members of your team and support the induction and mentoring process.

Desirable qualities and qualifications



Previous experience of working with young people with complex needs and vulnerabilities, nurturing and therapeutic approach to building relationships. SVQ 4 Social Services (Children and Young People) SCQF Level 9. We would accept candidates who are prepared to work towards this qualification if you have experience in the social care sector and/or can demonstrate transferable skills and knowledge. Effective leadership skills which demonstrate confident decision making, proactive thinking, creative approaches and solution focussed problem solving. Child centred values and practice, with a clear understanding of attachment, trauma and neurodiversity.
