Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated, resilient, and compassionate Residential Support Worker to join our children's residential service in South Manchester. You will support children and young people aged 5 to 16 with emotional and behavioural difficulties, ADHD, and the effects of trauma and neglect. Many of the young people may have experienced abuse, family breakdown, or significant loss. The role focuses on providing consistent, nurturing, and therapeutic care to help children feel safe, valued, and supported.
Key Responsibilities
Provide high-quality care and supervision to children and young people in line with individual placement plans and risk assessments
Create a safe, stable, and nurturing environment at all times
Support children with daily routines including personal care, school attendance, activities, and bedtime routines
Use positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviour
Build trusting, professional relationships with children and young people
Promote emotional wellbeing, resilience, and healthy routines
Support children to attend education, health appointments, and community activities
Maintain accurate daily records, incident reports, and care documentation
Safeguard and promote the welfare of all children in line with safeguarding legislation and company policies
Work closely with social workers, schools, and other professionals
Participate in handovers, team meetings, supervision, and mandatory training
Work flexibly on a rota including weekends, nights, and bank holidays
Person Specification
Essential
A calm, caring, and resilient approach
Ability to work with children who present challenging behaviour linked to trauma, neglect, EBD, and ADHD
Strong communication, boundaries, and teamwork skills
Flexibility to work shifts including nights and weekends
Right to work in the UK
Willingness to undertake enhanced DBS and full safer recruitment checks
Desirable
Experience working in a children's residential or specialist care setting
Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, Health and Social Care, or similar qualification or willingness to work towards
Knowledge of safeguarding procedures
Understanding of ADHD, emotional dysregulation, and neglect
Full UK driving licence (not essential)
