, you will play a key role in the smooth day-to-day running of the home. You will provide high-quality, person-centred support to young people with behavioural and emotional needs, promoting their independence, well-being, and personal growth. Acting as a shift leader, you will guide, mentor, and support colleagues while contributing to the effective management and development of the service.
Key Responsibilities Supporting Young People
Provide direct care and support in both the home and community, using person-centred approaches.
Promote independence, choice, and active participation in daily life.
Support access to educational, recreational, and personal development opportunities.
Assist young people in managing their health and well-being, including personal care where required.
Act as a Key Worker and advocate, building positive relationships and ensuring individual needs are met.
Encourage participation in holidays, activities, and review meetings.
Operational and Administrative Duties
Lead shifts in line with the rota, ensuring effective delegation and communication.
Administer medication safely and in accordance with care plans.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including daily logs, handovers, health records, and medication documentation.
Support the Home Manager with operational tasks such as audits, inductions, and rota management.
Ensure all policies, procedures, and quality standards are followed.
Safeguarding and Compliance
Treat all young people with dignity, respect, and fairness.
Adhere strictly to Child Protection and Safeguarding policies.
Identify and report any safeguarding concerns, breaches in conduct, or complaints in line with Rootz Care procedures.
Participate in risk assessments and follow all Health & Safety, COSHH, manual handling, and fire safety procedures.
Teamwork and Leadership
Provide guidance, supervision, and mentoring to team members.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive working environment.
Work collaboratively with colleagues, external agencies, and families to achieve the best outcomes for young people.
Support staff development through on-the-job coaching and feedback.
Recording and Monitoring
Maintain accurate and timely care records in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Monitor and report changes in behaviour, health, or well-being to management.
Support the creation and review of individual care plans and behaviour support strategies.
Employee Development
Complete the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) induction within six months.
Hold, or be working towards, a Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People's Workforce (or equivalent).
Participate in regular supervisions, training, and annual appraisals.
Support the induction and development of new and less experienced staff.
General Duties
Promote and uphold Health & Safety standards at all times.
Undertake sleep-in duties and flexible shift patterns, including evenings, weekends, and nights.
Drive company vehicles to support young people's needs and activities.
Provide cover or assistance across other Rootz Care services when required.
Working Environment & Risk
This role involves working within both the home and community settings. You will be required to manage challenging behaviour and, where necessary, use approved physical intervention techniques in line with Rootz Care policy and training. Flexibility is essential, as the role requires varied working hours and occasional work in other service locations.
