Senior Sculpture & Installation Conservation Technician

London, United Kingdom

Job Description

In this role, you will be involved in processes connected to the storage, display, and public access to works of art through our Exhibition, Displays, and Loans programmes. In addition, you will work closely with the Acquisitions Conservators on new artworks entering the collection. You\'ll work alongside a conservator who\'ll provide you with guidance and instruction. Although the role is largely practical, you will need to be able to use computers to document processes and complete relevant paperwork.

You\'ll like this role if you like mechanical, electrical, working machines, making and repairing works. You should also have experience working with kinetic artworks or comparable mechanical, industrial or electrical works and with a range of structural materials, including wood, metal, and plastics. In addition, the successful candidate should have great attention to detail and organisational skills with the ability to work well under pressure and prioritise workload to meet deadlines.

Sculpture and Installation art covers single sculptures to full room, multi-component artworks that are either static or kinetic and can be made of any material or combination of materials, including metal and plastic, flora and fauna. The Sculpture and Installation Art conservation team is responsible for the preservation, acquisition, exhibition, display and loan of these artworks. We are a team of conservators and senior conservation technicians who work across these areas of responsibility. The team is part of the Conservation Department. The Conservation Department provides specialist conservation services to support the programme across Tate and is one of four departments in the Collection Care division. Together, the department brings excellence and innovation to the care of Tate\'s Collection, preventing damage and deterioration and ensuring that the Collection is available for future generations to enjoy.
