HS2, Britain's new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2's construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Role Responsibilities:



Live the BBV HS2 values, actively supports BBV sustainability objectives, and promote a positive culture across health, safety, environmental and quality performance. Lead safe delivery through production and review of Task Briefing Sheets, Method Statements, Risk Assessments and Permits to Dig; carry out briefings, weekly safety inspections, hazard identification, temporary works reviews, and proactive use of observation and close-call reporting systems. Ensure accurate setting out from primary control, challenge constructability of designs, produces setting-out sketches, support design coordination, maintain survey equipment and registers, and interpret drawings, schedules and specifications effectively. Manage NCRs to close-out, ensure quality documentation, ITP compliance, material approvals, redline/as-built records, and timely uploads to corporate systems; maintain robust quality records and ensures supply chain compliance with project consents and handover requirements. Monitor programme progress and productivity, identify risks and variances, contribute to KPIs, reconcile material usage, produce accurate resource records and measures, understand additional works, and report performance against budget and programme.

Essential Experience:



Proven experience in utilities and drainage works, with strong knowledge of construction processes including earthworks, drainage and multi-utilities; able to read and interpret drawings, schedules, specifications and contract documentation, with a clear understanding of construction tolerances. Competent in setting out techniques using level, EDM and GPS; able to identify, report and resolve issues with control and information, ensuring accuracy and constructability throughout delivery. Strong commercial understanding including identification and recording of additional works and subcontractor scope; takes ownership of tasks, communicates outcomes effectively, works flexibly (including nights), holds relevant certifications (CSCS, SSSTS/SMSTS, driving licence), and demonstrates emerging leadership with desirable experience in Temporary Works coordination and professional accreditation (or progression toward it). Demonstrates strong H&S and environmental awareness, capable of clearly communicating and enforcing safe systems of work; understands Permit to Dig processes and is suitable for appointment as an Authorised Engineer, with experience in ACPs and safety-critical briefings. Independently drives the production of quality handover documentation; understands Activity Control Plans, material take-offs and scheduling, and effectively uses stage programmes to plan, communicate and deliver works.
