A Neighbourhood restaurant in Montpelier, Bristol. We're on a mission to change perception of Chinese food in the UK - from 50 years of British Chinese takeaways to regional dishes crafted with fresh seasonal produce.
You are someone that loves of Asian cuisine and flavours. Knows how to run a fast paced modern kitchen, has developed strong cooking techniques whether Asian, Chinese or European. Whilst having experience in Asian kitchens is a plus, having a strong desire to learn is more important. Experience in a fast paced dynamic modern sharing and small plate restaurant would be a big plus.
We're just at the beginning, and have big plans;
- soon we will be opening a new prep kitchen and fermentation room - focused on pickles, ferments and kombucha production - which we would like you to contribute to the design and fit out.
- we'll be launching lunch
- our new Cantonese charcoal oven is arriving from China allowing us to launch a 'Sunday Roast' done the WANGS way.
- we are launching a new cocktail bar
Duties
As a Sous Chef at WANGS, you will be responsible for working with Head Chef Xin Xin in leading the kitchen and ensuring the highest quality of food preparation and service (we have an open kitchen). Your duties will include:
- Assisting in supervising and leading the kitchen staff
- Collaborating with Head Chef Xin Xin to create and develop new menu items
- Overseeing food preparation, cooking, and presentation
- Ensuring that all dishes are prepared according to recipes and food safety standards
- Monitoring inventory levels and ordering supplies as needed
- Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment
- Assisting in training new kitchen staff members
- Adhering to all health and safety regulations
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:
- Previous experience working as a Sous Chef or in a similar role
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent knowledge of culinary techniques and food preparation
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with kitchen staff, management, and suppliers
