Job Description

The Haematology Day Unit is a nurse led service offers apheresis, supportive care and venesection. We care for patients with haematological cancers, sickle cell disease and other haematology diseases.



Our aim is to provide expert care to allow patients to avoid hospital admissions and to manage their disease in an ambulatory setting.



We are seeking experienced senior nurses to join our team as a Senior Staff Nurse on the Haematology Day Unit.



The individuals should be motivated, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and an ability to organize, prioritize and co-ordinate within a challenging and fast paced environment. You will be supported by a strong expert team, including the Ward Sister, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and the inpatient Matron team.



We are currently open Monday to Friday 08.00 - 20.00. Shift patterns at present are 9.5 hour shifts per week. We do not currently work weekends or bank holidays regularly, however occasionally work out of hours to support the service and eventually we may aim for weekends to be permanent in the future.

We are seeking experienced and motivated nurses to join our team on the Haematology Day Unit. We are seeking nurses that are eager to develop their clinical skills and competence and want to be future leaders within haematology nursing in an ambulatory setting.



You will have the opportunity to further develop and enhance your skills within a haemato-oncology setting with the support and training necessary.



We are seeking candidates with a strong desire to deliver the best individualized care to patients living with haematological diseases by working as an effective part of the nursing and wider team.



The successful candidate will need to have at least 1 year experience in haematology and acute setting and will be committed to developing their skills, knowledge, and leadership in a fast paced setting.



Opportunities for the right candidate include developing skills in apheresis, expert cannulation assisted by ultrasound, femoral line placement, and bone marrow biopsy skills. Informal visits/phone calls are strongly recommended.

Independently manage a group of patients within the specialty whilst

working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised and

personalised direct patient care.



Demonstrate appropriate practice and specialist advice in the assessment,

planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. This includes

history taking, physical examination and the requesting of agreed

diagnostic procedures/clinical investigations.



Responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication

including transfusion of blood and blood products.



Be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies in the

speciality. To interpret information and take appropriate action and to lead

others to do the same.



Act as an advocate for patients within the department, to ensure a patient

orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within

the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.



Ensure that patients' receive high quality clinical care and a good patient

experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and

doctrines.
