The Opportunity

Leonardo has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer on a permanent basis for delivery of an Inter Vehicle Data Link communications system. The Senior Systems Engineer will need to be an enthusiastic and pro-active engineer, familiar with working on complex electronic (ideally communications) systems.

The Senior Systems Engineer will have experience across the systems engineering lifecycle, managing a diverse range of stakeholder needs and requirements to achieve the desired outcome. The Senior Systems Engineering role is within the Comms & Force Protection (C&FP) business group and will focus on defining system behaviour, interfaces, and test in conjunction with the Design Authority, System Architect, and Project Engineering Lead.

What you will do
  • Work with the system architect and design authority to produce a comprehensive system design, capturing and documenting the rationale of decisions made in the process.
  • Functional analysis of the system to define how the system behaves under a range of scenarios, and how it interacts with other systems.
  • Management of system and subsystem level requirements and ICDs.
  • Working with the software and hardware teams to define work packages for implementation in the low-level design, and support iterative development.
  • Support in the development of complex performance models to support communications system analysis.
  • Supporting functions such as safety and security to ensure associated requirements are captured within the system design.
  • Work with the integration and test team in definition of test strategy, requirements, and methods to demonstrate the function and performance of the completed system and sub-systems.
  • Support in the provision of comms system expertise in design reviews and other forums.
  • Offer support and input into other areas of the FCAS Communications programme where required.
  • Establish and maintain good lines of communication across the Engineering IPT and upwards to the Project Engineering Lead
What we are looking for

You really must have:
  • Degree qualified, or equivalent, in a relevant Engineering/Scientific discipline or similar experience.
  • An understanding of Systems Engineering practitioner activities across the entire lifecycle.
  • An understanding of the fundamental concepts of communications systems.
  • A proactive attitude to engage with all tasks, and work with the team.
  • A willingness to define and develop requirements in an uncertain domain.
  • An ability to identify and solve problems at a system level, individually and collaboratively with others.
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal.
It would be nice if you had:
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering.
  • Knowledge of airborne, military or civil communications systems.
  • Experience in system analysis and modelling, including simulation in tools such as MATLAB.
  • Knowledge of Internet Protocol (IP), the Open System Interconnection (OSI) model, and/or RF communications.
