Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Digital Consulting (DC) is currently recruiting a Senior Systems Engineer to support the delivery of a complex multi-disciplinary nuclear materials handling project. The primary responsibility of this role is the application of Systems Engineering design techniques and design processes utilising the full \xe2\x80\x98V-Model\xe2\x80\x99 development lifecycle to enable the efficient development of these deliverables.

  • Systems Operational Analysis,
  • Main System and Sub-systems User Requirements Specifications,
  • Main System and Sub System Functional Specifications
  • Control System Detailed Design Specifications and
  • Verification/Validation plans.
As a member of the multi-discipline design team, the Senior Engineer will work with the client, colleagues and partners to ensure delivery of a fully compliant system, demonstrating full traceability of the design and solutions to satisfy all requirements.

This is a hybrid role and can be based anywhere in the UK, mobility and travel to customer sites and face to face meetings with colleagues will be expected as required, and the ability to work as a team member in this remote environment.

Must be able to pass HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check.

Responsibilities / Duties:

Includes, although not limited to the following:
  • Collaborate with discipline Engineers, client and partners, including occasional out of office visits, to develop overarching System Requirements Documents / Technical System Specifications and linked sub-system design documents
  • Collaborate with client and partners to generate an understanding of system use cases and associated functionalities to meet user requirements
  • Interpret client requirements, processes and expectations to produce accepted and quality deliverables
  • Perform traceability analysis between different levels of the system design
  • Collaborate with discipline Engineers to generate a System design/architecture capable of ensuring that sub-systems correctly interface and work together, including management of interface definitions and control documents
  • Create system verification documents to provide evidence that System design requirements have been met
  • Produce, modify and test PLC/SCADA system configuration and application code
  • Manage own work within associated project budgets and timescales
  • Anticipate technical, system and deliverable risks, and manage these with the project team
  • Demonstrate focus on customer care and delivery
  • Create and present clear technical reports and project status/update reports
  • Work in a safe and sustainable manner and strive for continuous adherence to and improvement in these areas
Skills / Qualifications
  • Minimum BSc Degree or equivalent demonstratable experience
  • Understanding and experience of the application of the Systems Engineering in a structured development environment
  • Excellent general knowledge of each Automation and Control engineering discipline
  • Experienced in writing system specifications
  • Extensive experience with multiple system implementation project and / or control system platforms
  • Experience of Brownfield upgrades / replacement automation and control projects
  • Experience of Rockwell and Schneider PLC and SCADA systems is advantageous
  • Must have thorough knowledge of engineering practices, methodologies and economic principles, calculation methods, design details, international codes and standards, procedures, and specifications
  • Familiarity with design, verification and validation processes as applied in the nuclear industry is an advantage but not essential
