A high-profile technical accounting role, requiring significant knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the energy industry. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Technical Accounting advisory team, partnering with the businesses / functions and will be accountable for interpretation of IFRS and accounting judgements on non-routine/complex transactions.
In addition, the successful candidate will make significant contributions to the Group Reporting agenda (including Annual Report & Accounts); developing group policy and implementation of new standards; development and delivery of training offers; and supporting M&A projects.
The Senior Manager will be responsible for:

• Providing advice on technical accounting issues and supporting the development of external reporting disclosures arising from those issues
• Developing policy and guidance for the Group Reporting Manual
• Embedding Group policy within the businesses / developing capability (including facilitation of training)
• Working with and developing the Technical Accounting team of advisors
• Supporting the quarterly close process including development of materials for due diligence, attendance at due diligence sessions and briefing Finance leadership
• Contributing to Audit Committee and Group Financial Risk Committee papers
• Liaising with external audit

The workload is varied and provides good exposure to senior management. It provides the opportunity to research and develop guidance/advice on complex accounting questions; and lead a wide range of technical accounting processes, including rollout of new standards and quarterly due diligence processes.
The successful candidate will also be involved in acquisition / divestment projects and integration of new businesses as well as organic business development and transactional activity. The role also offers opportunities to develop and facilitate training offers. Whilst the role has no direct reports, a flexible team of technical accounting advisors are allocated to provide support on an as-needed basis.
The role offers 60/40 office/home working.
Reporting relationship
The role will report to VP Technical Accounting. The role will also work closely with the Group Controller; SVP Finance and teams; and VP ARC.
Experience
The post holder will have strong accounting, financial, analytical and communication skills and will be a self-starter. In particular:
Required:

• Significant post-qualification experience
• A strong understanding of IFRS and other regulatory accounting guidance
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple/conflicting priorities with a track record of delivery in a project setting
• Ability to present and facilitate training material
• Ability to mentor, challenge, and influence optimally
• Good business judgment in handling sensitive financial issues

Desirable:

• A passion for technical accounting
• Significant experience in the energy industry, including strong commercial acumen

Education:
Educated to degree level or equivalent.
Certifications:
Recognised national or professional accountancy qualification e.g. ICAS, CIMA, ACCA, ACA, CPA.
Languages Needed:
