About the role (External)
What will you be doing?
Do you have a background in railway track engineering? or a strong interest in developing expertise in this field?
As a Senior Technical Officer, you will provide technical support and assurance for projects delivered by the Works Delivery Track Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the safe and efficient delivery of track infrastructure projects across the Northwest and Central Region, covering three routes from London Euston to Carlisle.
In this role you will be accountable to provide technical support and assurance for track-related projects where you will be reviewing and analysing technical paperwork and data to ensure compliance with relevant standards. You will also be undertaking and supervising technical tasks, surveys and design work on site if required. All of this will be done in collaboration with project teams to ensure technical accuracy and quality outputs.
Safety is at the heart of everything we do, so you will be accountable to carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements, plans and other instructions. It is critical that you adhere to company policies and procedures at all times.
Thinking outside the box is key and having a passion for data would be beneficial as you will be supporting on the continuous improvement through data-driven insights and reporting. Having experience developing and maintaining power BI solutions, including dashboards and reports as well as other data tools will really help you to succeed in this role. In addition to this, you will be responsible in updating systems, databases and records.
As this is a senior role within the team, you will support the Principal Technical Officer when required and will support in the teams development, as well as your own.
Please note, as this role is regional there will be frequent travel across Network Rails Northwest and Central region.
What we're looking for...
In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be:
Knowledge of technical support activities and techniques.
Knowledge and experience of electrification and plant maintenance and construction management process, systems and standards.
Knowledge of design requirements, processes and techniques.
Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team.
Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Able to coach, influence and develop others.
Hold and retain the competencies relevant to this post and required by business need.
Ideally hold or be working towards and NVQ level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in an engineering/leadership subject.
Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.
It would be desirable for you to have:
Knowledge of track engineering standards and assurance processes.
Experience working in a rail or infrastructure project environment.
Experience or strong interest in technical support activities and techniques related to track construction.
Ability to interpret technical documentation and standards.
Proficiency in IT systems, particularly Power BI, Excel, and data analysis tools.
Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Knowledge and experience of Design and Construction of track standards.
Training & Development
On-the-job training and support will be provided to the right candidate. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow their technical expertise in a supportive and dynamic environment.
Salary
: IMC40 - 36,866.00 - 46,808.00 depending on skills and experience
