Job Description

PURPOSE:

The Senior Technician is responsible for the technical delivery of performances and events programmed by The Spring at our venue in Havant and across Havant Borough, providing first class support to visiting companies, artists and hirers.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week worked flexibly according to programme and activity requirements.

Working Pattern: The Senior Technician works throughout the week, including evening and weekends. They work as the technician for the majority of performances.

Salary: 25,000 per annum

Reporting to: Operations Manager

Responsible for: Casual Technicians, Technical Volunteers

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Operations



Act as duty technician for specific performances at The Spring including:
- Ensuring the theatre, performance spaces or other rooms are prepared, tidy and ready for each event in advance of the company, artist or users arrival as per their rider or technical requirements

- Arranging, attending and supporting get ins, get outs and rehearsals

- Supporting visiting company stage management and technicians

- Provide sound engineering and sound operation

- Provide lighting design, engineering and operation

- Provide set, staging construction and rigging

Liaise with visiting companies, theatre hirers and user groups regarding technical requirements, rider requirements, schedules and health & safety documentation and practices in conjunction with the Operations Manager Manage and deliver a suitable training programme for amateur groups and hirers to ensure that they are competent and compliant when using the building Lead on the compliance of HSE Construction, Design and Management regulations in relation to the amateur groups Oversee installation, dismantling and lighting of exhibitions Lead on technical delivery for the wider programme within The Spring and in spaces outside of the theatre space Participate in events that take place off site providing technical support and advice when required Ensure efficient administrative processes are in place to support the effective delivery of the technical work and positive cross-team communications

Maintenance and Health & Safety



Ensure the health and safety of all events and activities in the theatre, including ensuring that all risk assessments for activities are up to date, managing suitable risk management and undertaking safe working practices Ensure that all equipment undergoes annual and periodic statutory testing (e.g. PAT testing, load testing of the rig etc.) and all equipment is safe and fit for purpose and stored appropriately at all times Undertake the servicing and front line repair of all technical equipment, organising specialist contractors or service companies where required

People Management



Line manage the Casual Technicians and Technician Volunteers, ensuring they provide excellent technical support to visiting companies and hirers and customer service to audiences. Work with the Operations Manager to ensure all events are staffed appropriately, arranging casual technicians, technical volunteers and specialist staff where appropriate Manage the technical staffing budget in line with programme needs Undertake induction and training of casual technicians, technical volunteers and specialist staff with the Operations Manager

Other Duties



Work with the rest of the staff to ensure The Spring provides an excellent experience for all our visitors From time to time run educational tours or workshops of the theatre space and technical activity Attend training and briefing sessions as required Perform other duties as may from time to time be reasonably required by the Operations Manager or Directors Abide by The Spring's policies and procedures at all times Attend regular staff meetings
