Job Description


We are a networked, paperless, Varian department. We have a managed service contract securing a fleet of five Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators, two CT simulators, a Bravos brachytherapy unit and Xstrahl superficial unit. Our dosimetry planning is radiographer-led, predominately using VMAT and IMRT. We also have an established SABR service and an expanding on treatment review team including a radiographer led late effects review service. We have SGRT (Align RT) on all our Linacs and on CT (SimRT).
We are a clinical placement site for student radiographers from the University of Suffolk and University of Hertfordshire (UH) and apprentices from Sheffield Hallam University and UH giving you the opportunity to help us shape the next generation of therapeutic radiographers.
Main duties of the job
We welcome applications from experienced therapeutic radiographers with excellent communication, leadership and teamworking skills, who are keen to play a role in keeping our service at the forefront of modern radiotherapy. We understand the importance of radiographer advancement and will support you with your personal development.
You will work a four-day week with a day off during the week, working early and late shifts between 07:00 - 20:00hrs. You will be expected to work some Saturdays, bank holidays and on-call duties at the weekends. We support flexible working and welcome applications from applicants wishing to work part time.

Job responsibilities
  • To supervise and deliver with a high level of skill and accuracy, radiotherapy treatments using external beam radiation and/or sealed sources.
  • To supervise and undertake the planning of patients treatments, alongside clinicians and other team members.
  • To supervise and be actively involved in the pre/post planning processes, including treatment course scheduling, calculations for treatment dose and programming of the treatment plan using computer systems.
  • To supervise and actively undertake QA procedures within the department.
  • To provide patients and carers with verbal and written advice specific to their needs.
  • Assess the patients holistic needs ensuring their suitability for radiotherapy planning or treatment, giving the appropriate advice and communicating with other members of the multi-disciplinary team if necessary.
  • To ensure that accurate statistics and records are maintained, in line with the policies of the Department.
  • To communicate and co-ordinate with the multi-disciplinary team involved in the patients cancer journey.
  • To deputise, where necessary for the Superintendent Radiographer.
