Job Description

Ellgia Ltd is looking to bring aboard a Senior Transport Supervisor to join it's team based in Ely, Cambridgeshire.

Working alongside the Transport Operations Manager, the Fleet and Compliance Manager, the Transport Supervisor (Ely) and the Customer Services Team, the role of Senior Transport Supervisor (Ely) is to assist in the supervision of the transport operations out of the Ely Depot.

The role will operate 45 hours working week with a shift running from 0700-1700 with one-hour unpaid break.

Main Duties



Leading and supporting the Transport Supervisor and Drivers and ensuring their duties are performed in a comprehensive and professional manner.

Efficient planning of collection routes to ensure efficiency and compliance with statutory regulations.

Regular reviewing of work processes for areas of improvement and implement as necessary.

Displaying and promoting Ellgia's values and behaviours to all members of staff at all times.

Establish and maintain active and constructive relationships with other teams in the organisation including Sales and Key Account Managers.

Provide data for relevant reporting requirements within the required timeframes to the Transport Operations Manager or other parts of the business

Ensuring Ellgia vehicles are roadworthy and suitable for their duties and any actions required are carried out promptly to maintain service.

To cover other areas of the Transport team when absences occur.

Driver Management



Monitor team performance and Motivate drivers with the aim of maintaining good attendance and a 'can-do' attitude.

Manage training and development of team members and ensure team members understand customers' needs and deliver the expected outcomes

Ensuring on-time service delivery and effective customer communication.

Ensure driver compliance through an effective debrief process.

Oversee the management of resource Route/Job Allocation, Driver Leave, Rotas, Agency cover and weekend work.

Put measures in place to ensure Driver (Direct and Agency) Inductions are arranged and driver assessments when required

Ensure all drivers are debriefed and all information recorded and actioned accordingly

Ensure Working time directive is monitored to ensure maximum driver efficiency

Dealing with Driver infringements and performance issues

Undertake any required investigations and disciplinary actions

Lead on Driver recruitment for RORO, and Trade Collection services

Service Delivery and Customer Experience



Manage next working day recovery activities and communication of non-service / missed lifts are communicated to the customer in a timely manner.

Ensure new customer requirements are met and effectively routed to improve round efficiency and performance.

Receipt, recording and actioning of customer complaints in a timely manner to the satisfaction of both customer and depot.

Robust and timely management of any waste contamination issues

Provide advice to customers in respect of service and recycling options.

Review and monitor drivers Purgo usage, to ensure weights, job issues and other collection based issues are recorded correctly.

Make the customer the priority - maintain effective and prompt communication at all times

Ensure tasks are replanned in a timely manner

Manage and monitor the routing schedules to optimise performance and efficiency

Resource Management



Report on vehicle performance, availability and productivity as required.

Maintain RORO stock levels to ensure that units are in place for when they are required

Ensure adequate levels of suitable containers are available for new and existing customers.

To work alongside Fleet Management Team in the organisation of P.M.I. bookings and collections, M.O.T.'s, service arrangements and all round compliance requirements

To make sure all vehicle defects are rectified and recorded in a timely manner.

Ensure the Correct procedure for defects is followed at all times

Hiring and Off-hiring of Vehicles when required

Managing breakdown and VOR situation to ensure that issues are addressed as soon as possible to minimise service disruption.

Ensure that the company vehicles are in a presentable manner (Vehicle washing etc)

Purgo and VWS Management for all fleet vehicles

Compliance / Health and Safety



Accident reporting and investigation procedures to be followed and completed at all times

To monitor and record driver's hours, and pro-actively manage them within the specified directive.

Carry out regular Vehicle inspects/gate checks

Download drivers & vehicle Tacho information within the required timeframes

Undertake Driver compliance checks & Management (Licence checks, RTD) when required

Ensure all safety concerns and near misses are correctly logged, investigated, and appropriate responses actioned.

Qualifications & Experience



Clear understanding of Transport Compliance (CPC desirable)

Proven experience in vehicle routing and driver management

IOSH/NEBOSH holder (or willing to work towards qualification)

Excellent computer and communication skills

Previous experience in a similar role in the Waste Industry would be advantageous

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 40,000.00-45,000.00 per year
